Enjoyed working with key decision makers and sales associates. Management was responsive. Good working environment. Time management skills are a must. Some promotional display set ups were paid according to an company's allotted time for completion. In other words, the display set ups might take more time to complete than the allotted times given by the company, but you were only paid what they thought it should take for you to set up the display or reset a planogram. This didn't happen often, but thought it was unfair. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 3493 Open 0.0 [] PART_TIME No Yes 4.0 Open May 14th, 2024 09:42AM May 14th, 2024 09:42AM News Corporation Consumer Goods Pharmaceuticals & Biotechnology
nasdaq:nws https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=3493 May 11th, 2024 12:00AM Open Open News Corp Advertising Sydney My thoughts There are positives if you know how to play in a big corporation. They are all the same. Grass isn't greener in any corp. Your time will be filled with spreadsheets for everything because after 10 years the company still hasnt figured out how to use Salesforce with no recourse for managers that default to spreadsheets for everything in lieu of official tools. Your time will also be filled with meetings about work rather than meetings that do the work so you have to cram actual work in between it all. Not to mention all the teams that exist to "help" sales but they come into everything at zero shot and need the full briefing just to offer help that a competent sales person would do anyway, wasting hours of meetings. The sales support teams are self justified as there are not enough competent sales people... But it's a vicious cycle because of all the other factors here... News can't seem to retain or hire competent sales people. A lot of the wasted time is due to a company stuck with senior management who demand so much up to date status and numbers that the middle managers just become admins for their detailed status updates. The offices are dated and fixing this is the last priority for the company, if you are in a satellite office you'd think you were working in a museum of 90's open floor. News consolidated all their trade marketing years ago, so now whilst sales used to have the support of tailored market engagement initiatives per product with budget, all that's left is nationally organised events that miss the nuance of partiular products and local needs. In terms of digital offerings, the business mostly partners with other peoples tech, leading to questionable point solutions with margins being eaten by intermediaries. What we do own, we mainly build by outsourcing product engineers from india etc with little hope of knowledge being internalised for post capex product maintainence. The little that is built in house seems to be our best offering. The smart tech people always get offers for more money elsewhere and there's no culture of celebrating wins of product creators at news so the culture of rewarding efforts isn't that great if you're not in sales. The future of the ad funded model in general is rocky. News are a company based on text journalism but instead of doubleling down and dominating this space, we try to capture video, a space we are terrible at, by making video products that accomoany other text content. If we're serious about video, we need a video only product without other distractions, clients are not stupid but we have to sell to them like they are. I could go on, but the advertising part of the business can only be fixed by gutting the many "heads of" installing senior leadership from outside the company in each regional office, with agency and budget to do stuff tailored for each region. This will scare my office in Sydney because they will lose some control, bit it's what's needed to compete and outshine big tech. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NO_OPINION 0.0 2.0 4.0 2.0 2.0 4.0 2.0 3.0 3493 Open There are so many "Head Ofs" that got to their position by running around and being the loudest voice for long enough, enabled by sycophant soft senior leadership that fell for their grovelling. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 6.0 Open May 13th, 2024 09:02AM May 13th, 2024 09:02AM News Corporation Consumer Goods Pharmaceuticals & Biotechnology
