The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) was launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with partners, GAIN aims at making healthier food choices more affordable, more available, and more desirable. GAIN’s purpose is to improve nutrition outcomes by improving the consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is an international organization that was launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. The organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated 892 million people in more than 30 countries, around 350 million of whom are women and children. Nutrition products are as varied as fortified cooking oil and flour in Africa, soy sauce in China and biscuits in India, as well as specialized products for infant and young child nutrition, and interventions to improve the quality of food along agricultural value chains.
Our Vision
GAIN is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. We believe that everyone in the world should have access to an affordable, health and nutritious diet. We focus on children, girls and women to break the cycle of malnutrition. By building alliances that deliver impact at scale, we believe that we can end malnutrition within our lifetimes.
Our Goal
By 2017, we aim to increase the intake of essential micronutrients such as vitamin A, D, iron, folic acid and iodine for 1.3 billion people, including 400 million women and adolescent girls, and 200 million children under five.
