|
I’ve worked with some absolutely fantastic, enthusiastic and talented people over my years at Lidl. I’ve become friends with so many outside of work. I’ve been given opportunities at Lidl that I never would have been given otherwise. Compensation is great, benefits are good. Work life balance is great bc everything is so disorganized no one is doing work anymore. Not because they’re lazy but because there’s no leadership or clear strategy.
|
We’ve been through 3 layoffs in the past year. The majority of those affected by the layoffs last week were women and minorities. Their health insurance was canceled effective that day. Current CEO is completely out of touch and by far the worst of the 5 (?) we’ve had. When asked what his favorite Lidl location was (in a company-wide town hall) he said “the one closest to my house in the Hamptons” . SIR the majority of people at this company make ~$20 an hour. His walk up song is “American idiot” and he hasn’t been proved wrong. His “hand picked, A-team” VPs refuse to speak with anyone under a director level and they just fired most of the directors.

Sell off this company to Aldi or Sav a Lot for the real estate. It’s never going to succeed in this country especially with the completely incompetent leadership. There’s no way this company will ever be profitable in the US.

Stay Far Away

Competitive pay.. that is literally it
|
High stress job with very little guidance from leadership. A case of the blind leading the blind.
False promises - promotions that they put out in front of you only for you to reach the goal and it gets pushed even further out.
The company has no clear goals and what is planned (which isn’t much) never comes to fruition. 2 rounds of sudden layoffs I would estimate about 300 people total in about a years time.
Very very small room for advancement regardless of tenure and skills.
Managers are not people leaders. They know the Lidl way of doing things and that alone qualifies you (if you are European) to take it all the way to the top as a board member. Don't bother knowing the US market heck don’t even fret over the fact you have never visited the country until we gave you this nearly 7 figure salary.
As Aldi continues to open nearly 1200 more stores by 2028 I see nothing but a bumpy road for Lidl (170 odd stores) and anyone who chooses to work here.
I hope hiring Karen, Joel and the rest of your US token A team works out for you. Sorry that it cost all of the hard working dedicated young professionals for you to find room for their salaries.

With current HQ Board failures and major revenue losses. Constant changes and restructuring, 3 layoffs in the last two years. Higher management doesn’t know what they want, constantly
inconsistent goals, job insecurity is high here.

Be more transparent with employees about what the company is going through. Regularly lying to employees when the writing is on the wall and making promises that can’t be kept isn’t realistic.

|
The compensation is somewhat good & benefits are ok. Not really worth everything else that you deal with while working there.
|
Writing this to save someone from lost time, eventual and unnecessary pivots. Please take heed as it is not an exaggeration.
You WILL be overworked.
You WILL be gaslit.
You WILL eventually burn out.
You WILL work within a toxic culture.
You WILL not experience any professional development.
You WILL work on German based systems - with no correlation to American systems used at other companies.
You WILL see people you work with for years drop like flies every other three months.
You WILL not be offered tuition reimbursement for certs or college courses.
You WILL not be offered differential pay or any real benefit if your in the military.
If you accept a job here make sure you read your handbook and policies. The CHRO is very good at her job and her lawyer instincts/skills writes policies that back the company in many ways rather then the employees.

Stay Away. Toxic Leadership.
|
|
My manager and team were supportive, empathetic, and dedicated to maintaining a good work-life balance for everyone. I will truly miss them and enjoyed my time working with them, as well as most of my other colleagues on the creative production team. However, my negative experiences with leadership far outweigh the positives of working here.
|
If you're anything like me, you read negative reviews on sites like Glassdoor and think, "Well, this was probably a one-off experience. There's no way it will be as bad for me!" Let me tell you, while this place offers decent pay and benefits, you will be broken down daily by toxic leadership. You will eventually forget your worth after being belittled by leadership who treats specialists and middle managers like nuisances. Most will not even respond to emails from employees below their level yet will gladly take credit for your work.
Promotions have been frozen for a year and a half in many departments or are promised but never given. The new marketing director, shockingly, is even worse than the previous one. He has no regard for employees and will do anything to appease shareholders. While this is common in corporate America, there are many companies out there who will at least pretend to care about their employees.
This is the icing on the cake: After going fully remote globally in spring 2022, the new CEO announced RTO with a 3-week notice. Remote employees were allowed to submit cases to stay remote, and on the Friday before the RTO date, all cases were denied, giving remote employees two days to relocate to their office in Arlington, VA. I asked for an extension to move and they never answered nor relayed the consequences of not returning. I was eventually fired and told that because I did not RTO, they were considering this my resignation, clearly to avoid paying unemployment.
If you want to work for a company equivalent to Twitter when Elon Musk took over, go for it. But this place is not sustainable for anyone who is looking to grow or do good work, as all work is micromanaged to an extreme degree by out-of-touch leadership. Do not work here if you want to be appreciated on any basic human level. This place is a corporate nightmare. Also, who knows if they'll survive the American market for much longer. They do secret layoffs constantly for a reason.
