The CoolClimate Network (CCN) is a program within the University of California, Berkeley's Renewable and Appropriate Energy Lab. CCN researches and develops cutting-edge carbon footprint management tools for households, small businesses, schools and communities in the U.S. and Internationally.
The CCN Vision is to enable individuals, organizations and communities to reduce their overall contribution to climate change by developing, sharing and acting upon personalized climate action plans. In addition to increasing awareness about environmental impacts, CCN researchers also seek to frame and message environmental issues as effectively as possible using methods proven most effective in social and environmental science literature.
CCN tools and widgets have visually appealing, user-friendly interfaces that are backed by sophisticated research. All calculations and data are fully transparent, published on our website and in peer-reviewed research.
Through the CoolClimate Network research consortium, a wide variety of business, government and industry partners support CCN through fudning and collaboration. Partners include the California Air Resources Board, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, the World Wildlife Fund, Amigos da Terra in Brazil, and a variety of for-profit partners. Many partners have integrated existing CCN software into their websites and programs, while other partners often sponsor new custom research or software projects.

The Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society at UC Berkeley brings together researchers, organizers, stakeholders, communicators, and policymakers to identify and eliminate the barriers to an inclusive, just, and sustainable society and to create transformative change toward a more equitable nation.
As part of the UC Berkeley Initiative for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity funded by the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund in 2010, the Haas Institute draws upon Berkeley’s considerable multidisciplinary research excellence and history of engaged scholarship. Organized into seven research clusters, the institute will involve more than 100 researchers across the University of California system. At its core are eight endowed chairs focused on equity and inclusion — a force that is unprecedented at Berkeley, and, as far as we know, unparalleled in the nation.
The Haas Institute represents a tremendous opportunity — perhaps unique in the world — to bring leading researchers and substantial resources across disciplines to bear on society’s pressing and pivotal issues related to equity, inclusion, and diversity. The institute will serve as a national hub for a vibrant network of researchers and community partners and will take a leadership role in translating, communicating, and facilitating research, policy, and strategic engagement to produce change and make a meaningful impact. While the Haas Institute clusters engage in high-impact, interdisciplinary research, the institute itself will respond to issues that require immediate action and will engage in innovative communications that re-frame public discourse.

As the first School of Public Health west of the Mississippi, the UC Berkeley School of Public Health continues to provide leadership in research, teaching, and service. Our training and research focus upon 1) a broad-based ecological perspective on health; 2) an interdisciplinary, campus-wide resource base; 3) an emphasis on rapid cycle application of new and emerging research; and 4) a special sensitivity to multicultural issues informed by the demands of social justice and protection of human rights. This broad-based approach to public health can only be pursued at a place like Berkeley, the premiere public university in the world, where the intellectual resources on campus enable the school to pursue a truly interdisciplinary approach to public health.
The school’s broad curriculum provides students with a working understanding of epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, health behavior, health policy and management, and the means with which this knowledge may be brought to bear on pressing health problems locally, national, and internationally. We offer an online MPH degree program for working, mid-career professionals, as well as several joint degree and concurrent degree programs including an MBA/MPH with the Haas School of Business, an MPP/MPH with Goldman School of Public Policy, and MSW/MPH with the School of Social Welfare, an MCP/MPH with the College of City and Regional Planning, and an MJ/MPH with the Graduate School of Journalism.
