Would not recommend for senior roles

Where to begin. I joined carsales because of the good reputation I had heard about. Unfortunately the company is very different now from what had been described to me. The culture has shifted to an "output" culture among senior leadership. Quality and planning are second best which leads to many fires having to be fought every day. Senior leadership consistently deprioritized working on initiatives to actually genuinely improve the day to day of the business/wellbeing of engineers. A lot of new senior management has been hired in which has created a very big power struggle upstairs with many senior leaders pushing things as hard as they can to stand out. The core tech stack is pretty outdated and very very heavily customized leading to a lot of issues and risks that never get properly addressed by senior leadership. Clear ownership and responsibilities are not a thing at carsales. This creates incredibly difficult situations when trying to deal with issues where no clear team is responsible and management just lean on anyone who can put out the fire. It also creates friction and confusion among peers when trying to do things like set standards or technical direction. In a nutshell I wouldn't recommend carsales to any of my senior engineering friends for the reasons above. Carsales could be a good fit if your more junior and aren't to heavily involved with management but otherwise would not recommend, especially for senior roles
