The term ‘admissions advisor’ is a very loose term for a title. You are pretty much in sales, selling people on this private university that charges 60K for a Bachelor’s. But the thing is, a lot of these people you get ‘leads’ on (which is a nice term for essentially incoming cold calls) are people who are unemployed, on disability, or are generally low income, and you essentially have to lie and say “Oh we’re still very affordable!” when you know it’s not. There’s no motivation except for email shout outs, the personal time off is very slow to accrue, and higher management is horrendously unqualified. A woman who is at some of the highest levels in the company openly admitted in a zoom call that another executive called her and literally asked her “Hey do you want this job? After training there is a lot of on the job learning because not every single thing you will encounter can be covered through training. There are not enough and sufficient resources for the different cognitive level of students they let in. Which sets them up for failure. The concerns of employees are met with round about answers or just ignored. The expectation of work output over a single day is not realistic. It is very fast paced so be prepared for that. Management is so supportive. The opportunity for overtime is always there if you need extra cash, and there is a flex time in case of emergencies for you to make up time without using PTO if you plan ahead and need to leave early. Great experience in my opinion. If you are there for three months you can take advantage of free schooling as well. One is an admissions advisor where you help students figure out their degree options and enroll and then coach them as they prepare for class. I love that part and it brings me a lot of joy. The other part of the job is like a call center where you just make as many calls as you can and sometimes you’ll end up calling someone who is tired of being called so they get angry. This part of the job is quite draining to me, but I can manage it because I enjoy the rest of the job. As a whole, my team is wonderful. We all get along really well and our boss is supportive and helpful and never unkind if mistakes are made. Paid Holidays. Benefits of working from home. Cons: You cannot call off. Slowly kept taking away are team meetings now only to 30 minutes a week. You have to meet daily quotas or they will micromanage you. You have to rebuttal prospective students if their busy no matter what.
