No hazard pay for tellers or supervisors that put their health at risk showing up to work at branches with customers everyday. They claim to care about their employees with their words, but their actions tell another story. The CEO himself basically said in many words that the pandemic wasn’t deadly enough to call for hazard pay, classy. All while he, and other highly paid salary employees sat at home and the real workers showed up to branches each day. The bank received millions in stimulus checks and didn’t give their employees a dime. All while they closed multiple branches, and pushed for those employees to figure out what they’ll do next amidst a PANDEMIC. Do better management, listen to your tellers. It is the low level employees, us tellers, that truly run the bank. Independent Bank’s turn over rates will continue to sky rocket if they do not change. My home branch was lovely and those workers all deserve raises! My bank manager works her tail off, taking on so many different roles. Unfortunately lesser managers are fiercely protected while hard working tellers seem nearly disposable. Very backwards company. Misleading job descriptions. Expect to be a salesperson, no matter what they tell you about the job description. Yearly raises are a joke. You can earn additional raises by completing their "Career Path" training, but it takes ages, your job duties increase, and the raise is once again a joke. The place is a revolving door, and for good reason. Management consists of anyone they can convince to stay for more than a couple years. My direct manager was a terrible human being, and every one knew it, but was bulletproof because she had stayed there long enough to have training that few others could stand to have. The general atmosphere is that of bad high school-cliques, immaturity, and pettiness. Work-life balance is minimal, as there are only a few people in each office. They give you training that teaches you not to come in if you are sick due to the risk to others but will expect you to come in anyway as there is no one to cover your shift. They have a cleaning staff but it is a token one, as the place if filthy. This, combined with the cash handling, makes it a terrible place to work during the COVID pandemic. Something always seems to be going wrong with their software or hardware. Documents that are needed for procedures are often untraceable, as their search engine can't seem to find even basic keywords. Even their chairs are old and falling apart. You will have back pains working here. *The one aspect I did enjoy while working at Independent Bank was the vacation time. They give you a fair amount (due to auditing purposes), just don't get your hopes up about getting the days you want. You don’t say “ugh another day at work”. You say “Oh, another day at work!” I’ve been lucky enough to be an employee at Independent Bank. I feel included, appreciated, and I’m always motivated to continue to work hard. The company is very family oriented. I know I will never miss an important family event. Family oriented. Very little communication from management, which is ironic considering they’re very top heavy. Friday and Saturday shifts were over 12 hours and seemed like I was working every weekend. On occasion I would open a new savings account, checking account, credit card, health savings account or IRA for customers. I learned a great deal of cash handling skills, how personal dealing with another person's money is, and the importance of confidentiality. I did enjoy the workplace culture. I loved how different each customer was. There were times when customers would be upset because of their account balances or a fee that was assessed to their account, but it taught me to problem-solve. The hardest part of the job was having to deal with angry customers, but as time went on and the more experience that I got in the field, the easier it was to work with. The most enjoyable part of the job was having a set schedule and developing relationships with customers that came in on a daily, weekly, or bi-weekly basis. Everyone needs to go to the bank and I felt it was great to interact with all types of people. Paid holidays, vacation, and sick days. Having a set schedule.
