This is a good job if you don't need hours. Suits retired or even student because they have periods where they are not busy for weeks and in the school holidays you don't catch hours at all. Fun workplace, easy work

Has faults, but overalll good

Overall a pretty standard publishing experience. It's much better if you love children's books. I had a great manager who emphasized work-life balance, but that's not the case for everyone. It can get quite hectic during peak seasons.

What is the best part of working at the company?
A few of my peers were nice people.
What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The leadership at Scholastic infects the entire company with a toxic culture full of avoidance and blame.
What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I left after 10 months with no job to go to because of the stress of the culture and work. For a company with such a noble mission, it falls utterly short of creating a psychologically safe workplace.
What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Negotiating with peers about who can take responsibility for an issue while everyone scatters like rats from any problems. I was in IT and this was rampant. Fear of leadership was the motivating force. Servant Leadership was as rare as a 5 digit annual bonus.

Bad management and micromanagement

Terrible managing no overtime which forces many working there to obtain a second job, this is more of a job for highschool students/college student or someone with no kids and living with they parents. And instead of rewarding with actual money they give thrash award inhouse currency so that you can give them back they money. Avoid this company at all cost, alot of false promises.

I loved working at Scholastic. Great work life balance and benefits. Little bit of office politics and cliques but I got a long with everyone and often get nostalgia thinking about my time there. Not too intensive and upper management was always attentive.

Great job on the side not career
|
If you are looking for a good seasonal/part time job that supplements income or allows you time to go to school, this is the job for you. I think what makes or breaks a job is how management conducts an environment. Here, it’s laid back and there’s no stress. Just come in and do the task assigned and no one one will bug you. Respect and decency is key here. The flexibility is just a bonus.
