Great community, strong tech team. The Clearwell office was a really fun place to work. There were interesting technical problems, and a good mix of senior and junior engineers. There were a lot of opportunities for advancing your career.

Clearwell (now part of Symantec) was a great startup with some of the most talented folks in "Silly Valley." As a startup they were attuned to their industry (which evolved over time) and as a result were able to deliver a quality product to their customers.

They had a touchy feely corporate culture that was constantly asking whether they should be a "Team" or a "Family" (I often reccomended trying to be a "Business") that sometimes robbed them of productivity.

2. Can learn building enterprise application using Java coding
3. You can learn about challenges of processing large amounts of data

1. Many new engineers who do not know the product.
2. The erlier engineers appear to have "checked out" after making millions on the acquisition
3. Many integration challenges with Symantec, slowing everything down.
4. Management generally trends to avoid risk, so you'll be working with old code with not much scope to improve or innovate.

Be honest with your employees - many engineers joined with the promise of a startup, and hyping the company as an IPO candidate and then sell out six weeks later leaves a bitter taste on all those who believed. The CEO is very untrustworthy and has no integrity. Go back to the basics and understand what made you get to where you were.

It was clear that the upper management really listened to the feedback from all employees, despite rank or title. The executives were kind & sincere. They were quick to offer praise when due.

There was zero work life balance. No matter what your position, you were expected to be available 24/7 even after the "start up" phase.

The management team was greedy and sold itself and the employee short.

- Weekly All-hands meetings to motivate employees
- Free lunches
- Good, solid VC's backing
- Good founder with high level of integrity
|
Untrustworthy CEO and executive staff. Only after the company was sold to Symantec that I learned it was the CEO's career pattern to sell employees on long-term vision, but the moment a semi-attractive offer comes along, he sold out. This was a similar pattern with his previous company.

Recent growth has identified management problems. Different departments aren't communicating, and basic expectations aren't being defined, which leads to finger pointing and playing the blame game.
