Coworkers were friendly and easy to talk to, but management not so much. One of my coworkers was a close friend, so that made the experience better. The management was a bit harsh with new workers.

You won't make a comfortable living.
|
Great place for part time work, do not start on a career here, it's largely a dead end. The only 2 full time people who I worked with that were not constantly struggling with money, they both still live with their parents, they are both over 40. Low stress job, except for the poverty that comes with it.

hours are flexible, store is fun to be in if you enjoy books, nice coworkers, customers at mayfaire location are ruthless and managers know you on a very superficial level

Pretty good if you're a book lover

I worked during the holiday season. The store was pretty busy around then, as expected, but not terrible. Really came to enjoy the place towards the end of my time there, but unfortunately was laid off despite being told I could stay due to another store in the area closing, and the remaining stores had to take the employees. That was really frustrating because I was told I had little time left, and I was scrambling to find another job (still struggling tbh and it's been like 2 months)
But overall, pretty chill environment! The customers were usually very nice, rarely had to deal with anyone difficult.

Rude and unhelpful managers
|
Working in the cafe, you’re basically alone the whole shift running the entire cafe. Bookseller managers are completely unwilling to pick up a mop and help you close up when people are ordering 1 minute before close. They never wanted to help in the cafe and pretended they were busy, but always had time to stop by so I could make their drink. I had a really good cafe manager, but the rest of management were rude. btw- you don't even get free coffees.
