Time for a change in the industry

In general, Gray Television is one of the better corporate entities in the industry. The benefits and functions of the corporation are better than it's competitors.
|
Gray Television still suffers from the same issues that the industry has suffered from for decades,. Undervaluing the workers, the work they do and an inability to adapt to younger and changing demographics round out the top three issues. Although, a lack of transparency in corporate functions is a close fourth.

I've worked a number of parent companies for local TV stations. Gray is easily one of the best. Working in sports, their investments in bringing local sports broadcasts to our stations have been great to see.

Downsides are mostly the overall negatives of working in local tv (hours, pay, holidays, weekends, etc.)

Corporate is cruelly indifferent to technical staff and pays us a 'poverty level' wage. Yet, they insist that each employees does the work of two people.

Incompetent and Insecure Management Who Lack Integrity

Most of the other account executives are outstanding people and great co-workers!
Get a chance to work with many clients!

Literally everything else. Management recorded me without knowledge or permission. Management is not comfortable discussing any potential mental health issues. Management told me I needed to make more eye contact during full staff meetings. Management joked about me not working there. Management disciplined me for being at the hospital with my father instead of a post-work dinner. Management made racist “jokes” on multiple occasions.
There is no HR person to discuss this or any other abuse with.
Worst job experience ever encountered. Working here will drain your soul. You mean nothing to management. You will never be good enough and you will be reminded of that daily. Working for this management will lead to the worst version of yourself.

This station gets your foot in the door to work at bigger stations in bigger markets

Pay isn't great. The only pay increases people got were due to changes in the parent company itself.
Management is unstable and sometimes makes decisions on a whim.
For being in the communications business, communication at this station is lackluster.
