It Was Good Until It Wasn't

Great commission, great breaks and great time-off balance
They fired everyone in the Canada, gave us terrible severance packages based on the lowest-commission season and gave no internal warnings prior to the press-announcement

Beware Internal Politics and Lack of Transparency
Good pay, hybrid setup, flexibility, industry reputation for resume
TLDR: Internal politics and lack of transparency will wreak havoc on your sanity : Several org changes announced overnight without any input from affected team members, Career decisions made for you via internal politics with no clear or effective routes to advocate for yourself and no consideration of your personal agency, Multiple favoritism-based promotions into previously non-existent roles that have never been publicly posted or opened for applications,
I was laid off, which fine as these things happen, but I was repeatedly lied to and treated like a child who isn't capable of making decisions for myself. I was repeatedly told that my role was eliminated bc of forced headcount reduction. Less than a month later, they have proceeded to post TWO NEW JOBS that are very similar but at a lower level. One of the new jobs has a salary range only 6K below what I was making + an entire additional job, so in total budgeting +150% MORE than my cost to the team. Meanwhile, I am entirely capable of doing both of those jobs' workload (and already had been for 6 months). I'd love to know why - but because of a culture fueled on false positivity, apparent lies, and overall lack of transparency, I have no idea why my glowing annual reviews resulted in being laid off and replaced. If a slight pay cut and title demotion would have been necessary to keep my job, as it seems it would be, I would have happily accepted that. But I was never offered the option. So instead I'm now interviewing for an even lower level job at a major competitor.
This exact same situtation could have been handled much more graciously if honesty and transparency were at all valued at this company. Why would you repeatedly lie to someone about being laid off due to headcount and neglect to provide an explanation for why a month later, during their job search, they will see 2 new replacement roles posted? This is obviously idiotic and shortsighted, and those bridges have been burned. I've been put in a position where I feel entirely disrespected and unnecessarily humiliated.
Other displays of internal politics and favoritism in the company included new roles/promotions/titles that never before existed being handed out to people without job postings made available for very qualified internal candidates to apply. Pretty sure that's illegal, and it happened at least 4 times in the past 2 years.
I'm not the only one who has been screwed over in this manner, it is increasingly becoming company policy. I'm a woman of color and protected class, so they clearly don't care about that either.

Be transparent. Be honest. Stop handing out titles and promotions to people based on favoritism and leverage - it's illegal. Treat people with dignity and provide them with the context to make their own decisions about what is best for their careers and personal lives.
Also LOL @ the new back-to-basics business strategy bc if it continues y'all are gonna end up like Macy's (that's not a good thing)

Terrible Work Schedule
None really. There is no uniform
- Commission pay. Meaning your pay check is never consistent. Each season there are new difficult sales goals to reach in order to even receive a bit of commission pay which is always just a few bucks.
-No say in schedule. They give you random schedule hours every week and when you ask for consistency they say they can’t and that the hire ups of Nordstrom create the random schedule
- Having to text and create style boards for customers every month and build a sales relationship which they heavily push sales associates to do which I’m sure feels like harassment to customers

Fun Seasonal Job

You stay busy moving around the whole store, especially during busy seasons.
Can be tiring on the body. Department manager expectations high. A bit stressful trying to meet your hourly numbers of units you pull from the sales floor.

Pay sucks, hours suck, managers suck
You get to talk to lots of people. If that's your thing.
Pay is not great, unless you want to break your back on commissions. Hours suck. They'll schedule you for 3 hour periods. Managers are very on your case about pushing sales to reach sales goals. I had to harass every customer to open a Nordstrom credit card. Received $10 for each card that was opened -- yes it was taxable income, not a "gift". Came in injured once and they did not care, you don't matter, just your sales.
