I am not reviewing NBG as a whole, but more my experience in the department i was.
-Not suitable for big 4 background employees. The way banks and big4 companies define "dynamic" and "structured" working environments is completely different. You will spend a tremendous amount of time dealing with banking obsolete systems (since transformation seems to have failed in this bank) and bureocracy and a company phone constantly ringing because you have to also deal with the bank's chaotic and inefficient way of work that you miss the point of the transactions / investments.
-Politics and mediocracy. Being social, smiley, kind and good with politics will get you away with mistakes in your job during the day.
-Bad pay. Although they announced in 9m23 855m profit, the bank still doesn't include overtime working in their budgets on a business unit level. I worked minimum 2 hours a day of overtime and was paid 1 hour per month. The salary didn't reflect the loss of the unpaid overtimes.
-The premises were dirty. Toilettes especially. No kitchen available, neither coffee.
-Parking not available. Although there is free space every day in bank's parking spaces, they delay to find a solution in order for these free spaces to be filled by people who park far away from the office and in dangerous areas of Athens. I was given the impression in the interview that a solution is to be found soon, only to find out that this issue remains unresovled for years.
-5% mandatory withholding fee on gross salary, presented as additional insurance but believed to be personnel retention policy since if you quit the job in less than 3 years, this fee is non refundable. curious to see the accounting treatment of that. It wasn't disclosed to me before the hiring which made it even more frustrating.
-Lack of management. No people management. The more senior levels of the department were mostly engaging in politics rather than leading us and setting daily goals, monitor performance etc Lack of management creates many more serious day to day problems than it may sounds to.
To sum up: Are you extremely happy with the salary you are offered? Will the department you are considering be working 7,5 hours a day and 7 hours on Fridays as per official bank's policy? Do you already know with who you will be working with? Then congratulations, say yes to the offer. Otherwise, it is a no from me.
