Varsity is prepared to help
This is the perfect job to help students outside their regular school day. Varsity provides a lot of support to students and the curriculum. The best part is you can create your own schedule.

Great for part time
Good per hourly pay, but the amount of hours just do not suffice if you're trying to go full time and pat bills with it. You'll meet students of various backgrounds and ability which is a plus

Rewarding with time management
The platform streamlined scheduling and payment, making it very easy to get paid on time and being compensated if a client doesn't show. It can be difficult to get new clients on their system. Tutoring plan is entirely set by you, so it's important to stay on top of your teaching plans for each student.

Easy pipeline to connect students with tutors, low compensation compared to amount client is charged
Working here was fine as a tutor in college needing extra cash. The system makes it very easy to remotely connect with students in need of help, and varsity tutors has a decent software for remote learning. The pay is 25% of the cost to clients, and compared to the average pay in the field of academic tutoring is fairly low.

Good program
This is an excellent program for students/parents to enrich learning. You can pick and choose what opportunities you want, how long you tutor, what subject. On the job side, if you're looking for a side job/freelance, this is like working fast food. It's more flexible but pretty average pay. If you want more money you have to wait for a good opportunity and grab it before it's gone. There isn't a lot of help with lesson planning, you have to do it yourself unless you partner with a school. School partnerships usually require some kind of certification but will often have a pay bonus.

Flexible, lots of opportunity

Low/average pay, not a ton of transparency

Decent but not for long term
When I first started with VT it was great! I felt like I found a company that actually cared for its workers. This is a base and bonus job and they made it seem like if you did not hit your sale goal that the only thing that will happen is you do not get your bonus. However after 2 months of not hitting the outrageous goal they set (where it is impossible for everyone to hit as there are not enough leads to go around) they said I would be put on probation if I did not hit it the 3rd month.

Fast Growing Company with Great Potential
I loved working at VT ~ the flexibility was a huge benefit. The work itself was truly rewarding ~helping students to improve their skills, build their confidence, and succeed in their academic journey. The compensation package was fair and the benefits were excellent. My colleagues were great people and I enjoyed going to work every day. The only drawback was the lack of training and assistance. Managers should prioritize making time for their associates.

The worst payment, and disrepectful with your qualifications and expertise

Miserable Payment,Disrespect with professionals
When you start they say “we start with this $$ base payment “ “but you can request a raise.Once you show your qualifications, level of expertise, wonderful reviews from your students, even improvement of your students, you request the raise and they always respond “request denied by the system “ but we don’t have a reason ,It means there’s no real person who check this, there’s no help with management and you get a miserable payment in comparison the job you do,the time of prep,or specific requirements like level of Master that I have experience but they don’t want to pay the right rate ,they sell really expensive memberships to the students and you don’t even get paid 1/4 of that

Is anyone running this company?
Matching with clients is a mysterious process with tutors only being assigned a very small number of the ones they agree to work with. You get paid an insulting fraction of what clients are paying for sessions despite doing all the work (including entirely unpaid prep time for lessons). They keep their rates hidden from tutors, but occasionally clients will tell you and only 10-15% are paid to tutors. You have no support system, not even a supervisor/manager to assist, a person to talk to live, or any type of coaching. You're constantly flying blind with minimal communication or guidance. It's all auto generated emails/texts that you're discouraged from replying to. They hire you as a contractor with no tax assistance (no W2s) and maintain the option to end your contract on a whim without explanation. It's quite unprofessional how the company is ran. There are much better companies to work as a tutor/instructor for with far better pay and organization. The only positives are getting paid quickly (within days) for sessions and having independence in how you teach.
