They directly supervise an assigned area and are responsible for ensuring a safe work environment, leading crews to produce product that meets standards for quality and productivity and effectively managing the workforce. Primary Responsibilities:Leadership:Is a champion of the company safety and employee engagement programs and adheres to all appropriate safety policies and procedures in the course of directing employees and seeks opportunities to improve safe work practices.Follows all company established methods, policies, rules, practices, and procedures to ensure employee safety, product quality and efficient operations.Set direction for all production personnel dailyCoordinate with production to ensure orders are produced according to customer request dates.Manage all employee issues (hiring, performance management, and training).Accomplishes results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.Employee Engagement:Reinforce SWM mission and guiding principles through close engagement and interaction with site employees.Partner with site leadership and local HR to maintain and support a positive, engaged working environment.Employee Training:Ensure manufacturing area personnel are trained correctly to enable product to be manufactured and packaged to the customers’ requirements.Monitors and ensures manufacturing area personnel are trained to meet zero defects, 100% on time shipments, zero customer complaints.Maintains working knowledge of all equipment and processes related to the manufacturing and packaging areas.Has a working knowledge of internal manufacturing system(s)Inventory Management:Maintains bulk inventory for Tape Attached Hardware, meeting the 3M guidelines for acceptable levels.Performs cycle counts as required by the customer and develops and maintains a cover sheet to explain any discrepancies that may occur.Sends all appropriate reports and updates to the appropriate personnel both internally and externally.Performance Management:Partner with local HR for guidance and support in progressive discipline/corrective actions to ensure they are conducted consistently and in accordance to policy.Provide coaching and feedback to employees on performance management and career development plans. Work closely with Human Resources to ensure alignment.Coach up and transversally when necessaryPolicies & Processes:Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.Maintains quality production by understanding and enforcing organization standards for quality and technical specifications.Ensures operation of equipment by calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.Provides manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data; answering questions and responding to requests.Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.Additional duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities:Establish and maintain a staffing level appropriate for the work volume. Correct problems either directly or through the plant manager.Regularly observe and evaluate all manufacturing area activities.Authorize overtime work of personnel, when necessary.Review all job orders for completeness and accuracy. Comply with all customer specifications for both product and packaging. Ensure appropriate labeling is used on OEM jobs.Performa approvals on all press run sheets.Gather data for establishing rates to ensure operators know the expected production rate for the task they are performing.Ensure established rates are being met by press and packaging operators.Effectively monitor and approve employee attendance, overtime and PTO.Maintain and update scheduling systems.Education/Certifications:High School Diploma or GED required3 years previous supervisory experience in a production/manufacturing environmentTechnical Background: 3 years machine operator experience preferredRequired Skills:Good communication skills as well as analytical skillsKnowledge of MS office & SoftwareKnowledge of 3M Systems SoftwaresAbility to work in a cross-functional team environmentThorough knowledge of SPC, control charts and safety guidelines requiredExperience in employee relation and excellent interpersonal skills that include the ability to work with employees at multiple levels within the organization is requiredThe ability to effectively train employees and conduct performance management activities is essentialAbility to effectively manage multiple priorities while meeting production schedule requiredConfidentiality, integrity and communication skills are required Note:  The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the incumbent. As experts in highly engineered materials made from fibers, resins and polymers, we provide solutions to make products stronger, more durable and with increased performance. From accessory materials for face shields and medical devices, to protective helmets for hospital workers, law enforcement and military, to support layers for filtration and Reverse Osmosis (RO) applications for clean drinking water – and much more, we are proud to serve customers who make a world of difference in the markets they operate in and the products they improve.   We have an opportunity for a Machine Operator in our Advanced Materials and Structures business.  Efficiently set up and operate one piece of converting equipment, such as the Beck, Clark Aiken power cutter, and the industrial laminator to produce materials within specified tolerances and quality standards.Primary Responsibilities:Machine Operation:  60%  Perform all duties necessary to set up, adjust and operate one or more pieces of equipment as listed above and, with some assistance, operate other equipment to convert materials to established specifications.  5% Select proper job supplies and verify that placed material conforms to order requirements; load onto or off machine or equipment, using care to align properly to prevent waste and best utilize materials.  Report discrepancies to lead person or Converting Supervisor.  10% Transfer completed materials from the machine to skids, pallets, containers, etc. Repackage unused bulk stock to ensure proper storage and maintain cleanliness.  2% Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly fashion.  7% Package or prepare materials for shipment.  Tag or label materials with required information and complete work orders and records as required.  2% Assist in the monitoring of required supplies, materials and equipment.  Fill out inventory use slips for stock material used in the performance.  2%Perform job within rated production standards.
