The new building was a huge step up from the dungeon they subjected their employees to for so many years. The atmospheres fun, and trendy, bright and open. A great space to go to on the daily. The planning and investment towards this space was quite the contrary to how the business is run. The C-level staff was always approachable.
|
Leadership was challenged with communication, transparency and good old fashioned investment in one another/the team. They expected staff to read minds instead of providing processes to follow. There usually was no open dialogue just directive without context. When it comes to a solid plan ... well there just wasn't any. Daily activity was a crap shoot for what type of rabbit they wanted staff to pull out of there hat. I should have known better than to stay when on my very first day working for the company the boss said to me "your on your own, you will have to figure it out" - now that was reassuring letting me know I chose the right place to work and the right boss to work under, it truly was the beginning to the end for me.

Invest in your staff show them that they actually mean something to your organization. Actions speak louder than words. Communication is key but you cannot trust it to go from top down the filtration process is broken. Take a look at your department leaders and make sure you have the right people in those roles. I can assure you there are 1 or 2 that are lacking in actual leadership abilities and they will be a huge contributor to your demise should you retain them especially when there motto for leading teams is "do it... because I said so".

Great people working hard to make a difference despite the caustic executive management.

CEO has his boot lickers. There is a strong "Good Old Boys" club at Buzztime. He surrounds himself with "yes" men. If you are a woman... well do the math. The CEO is very condescending while he tries to act like everyone's friend. To hear some of the comments he makes in meetings about people not present is appalling.

The CEO needs to actually trust the team. While he will say "Trust" is a core value, it is one he rarely demonstrates. uring the monthly review meeting, rather than being helpful, he berates the everyone presenting making the meeting very unproductive and just an attempt to get through it without drawing his anger. The meetings feel like a power play and everyone knows that they have to spend days on presentations that are only going to get them berated no matter how much effort is put in. If the CEO spent this time learning about the team and what makes them tick, instead of spending the time forcing this inquisition.
Stop firing people and then giving their job's to other people expecting them to be able to do multiple jobs effectively.
