Not bad at a union level but there are slow, lazy, and clueless people everywhere. Management is terrible! 90% of the managers should not be in their position, but, they are due to favoritism and nepotism which runs rampant through all levels.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best thing is being employed. Amtrak is not what people think it is. They take to much of your money. Tier 1 and 2 and the worst thing is they don't take out for social security

Climbing the trains , and not knowing what you are going to do for the day. Also they have a lot of call offs

The work environment is very stressful and demanding. Sometimes there are no supplies and lot of call offs. It's a mixed culture

Those who work hardest are punished the hardest. Those who do nothing have no consequences for their actions, and are promoted and loved.

A typical day at work is frustrating because it is hard to stay on track. I learned much about contracts. Overall, management is only out for themselves, you are just a number. The culture at Amtrak is very toxic, most of the people who are promoted in the company are fake and slackers. The hardest part of the job is to stay motivated. The most enjoyable part of working there is some of the people you get develop a relationship with.

Amtrak is a slightly better quality of life than working for freight carriers. Ultimately, however, it’s the railroad. Working for the railroad is very similar to working as a nurse or in the trauma medical field; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, unpredictable and on-call work, high pace and high stress at times. Good pay and good benefits are the upside.

Good place to work. in a small city like lancaster it’s relatively easy to hold a job and if you get bumped out of your job you can fill in to other positions not too far away. just get all your dates and you’ll be fine
