OUR MISSION
Helping children with special needs reach their potential.
WHO WE ARE
Serving children with special needs and their families since 1953, we provide specialized pediatric medical rehabilitation services and supports to more than 3,000 children with special needs and their families through ~30,000 service sessions/yr in Surrey, South Surrey, White Rock, Delta, Langley and other areas of the Lower Mainland. Our newest program is "Sophie's Place" Child Advocacy Centre.
THE CENTRE FOR CHILD DEVELOPMENT is a 'one stop shop' for children with special needs and their families through specialized paediatric psychologists, family service & parent support workers, key workers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physiotherapists, early childhood educators, supported child development consultants & teachers, recreation specialists, technicians, a dietician and a Doctor specializing in developmental paediatrics.
SOPHIE'S PLACE is a child and youth advocacy centre focused on providing specialized services to physically, mentally or sexually abused children up to age 18 in a child-friendly setting. Sophie's Place is the result of significant collaboration between the Surrey RCMP, Ministry of Children and Family Development, City of Surrey, Ministry of Justice Victim Services and Crime Prevention, and The Centre for Child Development. Sophie's Place enables the collaborating agencies to respond to child abuse in a compassionate and highly integrated manner.

OUR MISSION
Helping children with special needs reach their potential.
WHO WE ARE
Serving children with special needs and their families since 1953, we provide specialized pediatric medical rehabilitation services and supports to more than 2,700 children with special needs and their families through ~30,000 service sessions/yr in Surrey, South Surrey, White Rock, Delta, Langley and other areas of the Lower Mainland. Our newest program is "Sophie's Place" Child Advocacy Centre. "Sophie’s Place is a safe, friendly and welcoming place for children and youth who report sexual or physical abuse," says City of Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts. SOPHIE'S PLACE is named for the centre's patron Sophie Tweed-Simmons. "It's really important that kids can have a place to go where they can be taken seriously, and where they can express what's happened to them in a safe environment," says Sophie Tweed-Simmons.
