Not perfect but I liked it.

So many lovely people, working hard to make better games than the competition for a fraction of the budget. Lovely campus in the countryside. I went through good times and not-so-good times... stayed 15 years in the end.
|
Competing against the big guns without the resources to back it up could make for hard times. Many great franchises slowly failed because of that. Some of the pre-EA management were questionable. Salaries were on the low side compared to the rest of the UK industry. Tended to not promote people who stayed and would give greater compensation to people joining than to long term employees.

Toxic Work environmentin malaysia studio, especially WRC team members, they will laugh at your appearance, hobby, your performance in office, and management of malaysia office choose to be blind , and people dont dare to report at all, due to EA policy, the senior who lead people laugh at you have the right withhold your salary and bonus. They also try to ostracize those who attempt to appeal against office bullying, such as deliberately nitpicking to say your job performance is poor. Working here requires suffer malicious rumors, ridicule on you, until fresh joiner join the company and they shift their bully targets.

You have to be adaptable, a fast learner, and comfortable with unpredictable situations that will require you to work overtime. Sometimes you have to work alone without any direction due to no one watching you always, then you have to be proactive. Also, get the feedback from a prior lead could be different from the current lead, so you have to be careful before asking the feedback.

1.Zero communication between management and artist in Codemasters Malaysia -some group lead only communicate with artists when they notice there’s a problem with you, they don’t care about your improvement, what issue that you re facing. It’s always happened submissions are late due to miscommunication within team and senior doesn’t care what happened ,what to solve and just care about the submission deadline.You just a factory machine to them. -project management team only know you through group lead or seniors, they don’t talk to you even we are sit in the same office space. So they always wrong judgement on each artist work performance. (They dont care the work quality, they just look at the “numbers” man-days you used) Sometimes happened a few skilled artists didn’t get promoted and resigned because there is no fair system to let artist proof themself, so artist will only keep an eye at rushing to finish work with no quality , you can see obviously overall team performance and work quality are dropping every year since 2019, 2010 (pause the game and look at the environment props asset closer, they keep reuse the same thing since PS2) 2.Standing Still career future in Codemasters Malaysia -you will only allowed work on the similar task, the group leads won’t give you a chances try work on a task that new to you. For an example: if you are familiar work on assets creation then you will have no chance work on foliage creation or terrain production. (If you familiar 3D modelling tyre, then you will keep working on tyre until end of time…) there will be no challenge or chances improving yourself at here. The artist came out from codemasters malaysia will always lack of competitiveness compare to other game studio artists in Malaysia. (Like I mentioned before , you Are just a factory machine to the management team, what a joke they still calling us “artist”) -there’s a goal review program in EA which is a good thing, but this is useless and no body cares in codemasters malaysia. They set a goal to every workers annually, but they don’t give you a clear direction or guide you to achieve it. You will standalone and figure it yourself and work like a factory machine at here. 3.Hate Speech culture / workplace bullying in Codemasters Malaysia -drama, gossip, rumours and hate speech always happened within chinese artist communities,those foreigner management members have no idea and they don’t care about artist’s mental health.(like I said before they just care numbers on paper and treat you as factory machine) -especially the rally environment chinese group, they will always spreading people rumours and laughing at your back in office and their topic can be your body shape discrimination , religion discrimination or dressing discrimination.This will make artist feel sick in such toxic work environment. -if you are planning join codemasters malaysia, I would suggest you just keep silent , don’t join any social, don’t make friends at here, just finish your work and leave office everyday. You will no idea how they gossip you at your back and backstab you in work.
