Dance Into Space (DIS) is a registered non-profit making contemporary dance theatre company founded in Kenya by choreographer Ondiege Matthew in 1999.
Since 2005 DIS has been engaged in Mix ability work with dancers with disability.
DIS exists to foster the appreciation, practice and training of contemporary dance through the sharing of knowledge and experience in educational and outreach developmental programs.
DIS engages in the exchange of ideas at the local, national and cross border levels through networking with likeminded organizations, the development of an understanding between communities and people and the exposition of artistic work(s) to audiences. In addition, DIS offers contemporary dance to vulnerable and disadvantaged youth as a way of self and communal expression and as a way of integration into society.
Mission: To train in dance and create high quality contemporary works for and with persons with and without disability for entertainment, education and community development.
Vision: To have contemporary dance very popular locally, nationally and internationally and is being utilized by all persons in all spheres of life.
Dance Into Space’s work is the only one of its kind in East Africa. We have managed to create an infrastructural foundation for professional contemporary dance and mix ability practice in Kenya especially with the establishment of a state of the arts training and rehearsal studios at the GoDown Arts centre since 2005.
