private:delivery https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=364313 Jul 23rd, 2022 12:00AM Open Open delivery.com Software Engineer New York, NY It's been real. - Everyone I worked with was nice, and I made some great connections. - I grew a lot in my role, and took on new tasks that I can actually talk about with future roles. - Tech team was developing a good agile workplace without being stuck in ceremony. - Work/Life balance was great (Year round Summer Fridays were refreshing and had me do my best work, unlike what that other older review said) - I actually had paid vacation days instead of bogus unlimited PTO. - I had a real, actionable review system that made me feel positive about what I was contributing to the company, and that there was future career growth. - The product manager was genuinely a nice guy who was more than happy to work with developers. For these aforementioned reasons, I have to give at least two stars for my short tenure at Delivery.com. I genuinely had some decent times despite being completely remote. - Product indecision from the parent company has let the site languish and competitors like Grubhub/Postmates/etc continue to dominate in a market with slim margins. - No Delivery.com company discounts or perks. Despite working for the company, I had absolutely no impetus or interest to actually use our own product. Most of the restaurants on Delivery.com in NYC were low quality bodega delis, cheap ghost kitchens, or fast food. - Pay was uninspiring at best to inspire one to perform above and beyond, and had a strange total compensation style (quarterly bonuses). No gym discounts, health insurance was mediocre, and there weren't any other tech company style bonuses. - Codebase was ancient (4 years or older), more or less completely undocumented, and there wasn't enough staff knowledge to take on major renovations needed by product. Tech team took on projects themselves for their own sanity rather than company or sales driven improvements. Much of the consumer site is extremely disjointed from a UX perspective. Back of house services are (as of this posting) even older. Even the mobile app page has a copyright of 2018. - Senior management was completely opaque about company health, product goals, whatever future was going to happen. Departments were extremely siloed. - Senior management caused good people to leave the company (prior to the following point). - The product apparently isn't making enough money for the parent company, along with a possible recession ahead, so the vast majority of the tech team (Front End/Back End/Mobile/QA) got laid off with zero notice. My forecast is that the site will continue to run in zombie-mode until various implementation bugs cause outages and/or whatever inertia/good will that's left runs out from customers. Any further updates/maintenance are more than likely to be handled by a lowest bidder offshore firm. If the current parent company for whatever reason decides to throw some money at the site again, and hire US based developers, make sure you are aware of the above if you are applying. Negotiate hard on your salary, and keep your resume updated. Be aware that most of the pros I listed will probably not exist. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 0.0 2.0 5.0 2.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 3.0 364313 Open Without having a compelling niche, a seamless (no pun intended) user experience, good restaurant selection, media promotion, capital infusion, or any real reason to choose Delivery.com over its competitors, there will be a continual lack of funds and interest in the site. Consider selling if there's another investment corporation out there with the money and will. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 1.0 Open Jul 26th, 2022 03:57PM Jul 26th, 2022 03:57PM Delivery
