<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Enveritas is looking for an experienced counsel with a background in general corporate or not-for-profit law to help drive the growth of our ambitious start-up nonprofit. </span></p>

<p><strong>Background</strong></p>
<p><strong>Enveritas is a startup nonprofit that offers a new model of verifying sustainability in the coffee sector</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">. It was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in New York. We have a diverse, global team with backgrounds in sustainable agriculture, management consulting, technology, data science, and public policy. To complement this team, we are looking for an experienced General Counsel to support our growing team in the United States and 11+ countries of operation. </span></p>
<p><strong>We are building solutions for smallholder coffee farmers that are currently beyond the reach of existing sustainability certification or verification approaches. </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">Consumers are increasingly asking if the brands they trust are “sustainable” – that is, produced under acceptable social, economic and environmental practices. Companies have responded by setting targets for becoming “100% sustainable”. However, existing approaches for verifying sustainability face challenges reaching farmers that are too small, too remote, or informally organized. We’ve developed a rigorous, scalable and transparent method of verification that works in this “underserved space” and are rolling it out globally.</span></p>

<p><strong>The Role</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Responsibilities will include:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Provide legal advice and counsel, and identifies and responds to legal issues or regulations impacting the Enveritas’ operation worldwide, including legal review and advice on upside, risk, and implications of new projects, programs, and corporate structures to support strategic, and operational decision-making</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Assist with retaining, supervising, and coordinating outside counsel</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Participate in the drafting and review of contracts, including non-disclosure agreements, confidentiality agreements, service agreements, purchase agreements and employment agreements</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Conduct research and prepares legal opinions related Enveritas’ operations</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining corporate policies, procedures and practices as well as related training</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Assist with corporate governance matters and document worldwide</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Consult with outside counsel on matters requiring areas of specialty (e.g. Intellectual Property, Employment law)</span></li>

<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>

<h3><strong>The Role</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Your role will be to assist Enveritas in scaling up its Cote d’Ivoire operations</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">. The role will involve leading and assisting on a number of projects, including planning and overseeing data collection, training and guiding field teams on the ground, analyzing complex data sets, managing stakeholder relationships in country, and developing local sustainability issue expertise. Following the completion of our Cote d’Ivoire project’s core steps by early 2020, a number of internal opportunities may be open to the candidate (e.g. helping set up a new country, supporting the growth of another project, etc.).</span></p>

The starting period for this position would be as a volunteer for 6 months (generous cash stipend + covering of all housing, travel and work-related expenses). It was founded in late 2016 and is headquartered in New York. We have a diverse, global team with backgrounds in sustainable agriculture, management consulting, technology, data science, and public policy. In the last two years, we expanded our operations to 10 coffee origins. We are in the middle of an ambitious expansion to cocoa-producing countries and to other important sustainability areas (e.g. education) in which our technologies could help make a difference.</span></p>
<p><strong>We are building solutions for smallholder farmers that are currently beyond the reach of existing sustainability certification or verification approaches. </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">Consumers are increasingly asking if the brands they trust are “sustainable” – that is, produced under acceptable social, economic and environmental practices. Companies have responded by setting targets for becoming “100% sustainable”. However, existing approaches for verifying sustainability face challenges reaching farmers that are too small, too remote, or informally organized. We’ve developed a rigorous, scalable and transparent method of verification that works in this “underserved space” and are rolling it out globally.</span></p>

<h3><strong>The Role</strong></h3>
<p><strong>Your role will be to assist Enveritas in scaling up its Cote d’Ivoire operations</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">. The role will involve leading and assisting on a number of projects, including planning and overseeing data collection, training and guiding field teams on the ground, analyzing complex data sets, managing stakeholder relationships in country, and developing local sustainability issue expertise. Following the completion of our Cote d’Ivoire project’s core steps by early 2020, a number of internal opportunities may be open to the candidate (e.g. helping set up a new country, supporting the growth of another project, etc.).</span></p>
