Matrix management is terrible. Their software is ancient. No funds are put back into employees, tech, or the shop. No receptivity from upper management to ideas for improvement, but tremendous pressure is put on middlemen to lead teams and meet unreasonable sales goals. Rampant fatphobia. Misogynist higher ups who will bully you if you don’t keep your head down.

*There are some excellent Club and Regional leaders that are open and willing to mentor those interested in staying with the company.

*The internal candidacy process was exponentially disappointing. Poor communication, and the team appeared to be spread thin.
*Qualified AGMs were not given the opportunity to interview for larger roles within the region. Rather, we’d find out about a promotion through the grapevine without the understanding there was a position open. The region is small, which makes this piece a serious area of opportunity.
*The HR team consisted of very few people and outsourced HR for most things, which is disappointing for such a strong organization. More support is needed here.
*Promises and insinuations are made about promotions that do not come to fruition-Club leadership needed more transparency in this department.
*Poor strategy for team development. Our immediate leadership team did not consistently follow a standard ladder of discipline, and employees were blindsided by final write ups without previous progression.
*Club leadership was not consistent. Leaders prioritizing micro managerial and aggressive tactics were kept on board despite complaints.
*Questionable behavior around returns from short-term disability leave.
*Immediate team culture prioritizes the sales team, and although that’s important, it came at the expense of respect for leadership and was not addressed by the Club.
