I loved working repairs, but per usual big corperation, bad pay, and you will be asked to help in sales frequently. Customer base was okay for the most part but tons of onesie twosie jobs

Fun place to work

I have worked for Guitar Center as a Music Instructor for about six months now. It is a good workplace. The management are understanding. I like the laid-back environment and I feel like I can be myself there. I also like the autonomy given to lessons instructors. There is a curriculum provided to use, but instructors are encouraged to use their own lessons if they like. One drawback is the lack of hours, this is definitely not a full-time position. The hours vary with the demand for lessons, so it's more of a supplemental job.

Used to be discounts and used gear. That was all greatly reduced while I worked there.

Selling warranty upgrades on gear that you know doesn’t need it.

Corporate jargon trying to disguise as musicians.

Unloading trucks while working for commission because they cant staff the warehouse.

Unethical vulture culture: the green screen nightmare machine. Guitar Center is the MacDonald's of music stores; the sad part is in some markets the work culture is extremely toxic. You can be fired for no reason. The pay is not there; that is laughable. The knowledge of the workers and management is skewed by age in my area and it is also laughable. You make more if you sell (and are prodded to sell) the 'coverage' which is often bogus, as everyone knows. The quality of the house brands at the place is poor, as everyone also knows, and they are so uncaring with their fine instruments that they are often hung high in the store in a bright light & high heat environment, warping and harming the guitars we were supposed to sell. The fact this occurs as a normal part of operation is ironic at best and very sad at worst. It's a company that is tanking and isn't about employees or quality anymore; they pretend they are but, they ain't. The company is not kind. Not a ship I recommend sailing on at this point--you will be abused by co-workers, customers, and managers. Most enjoyable part of job: leaving. The company pretends to be ethical and cool but - they really are not. They have failed in that estimation.
