A true startup with real upside

Incredible upside and market opportunity. The CRE industry has not been quick to adopt technology. Honest Buildings is one of less than a dozen companies that have endless opportunity. The CEO has done a great job in sourcing investments from not only VCs, but also customers, creating a customer backing that's unrivaled.
One of the few places that I've worked where I think the equity will have real value.

A true startup, which means flexibility is key. Roles and responsibilities can shift regularly and it's easy to feel disorganized. Like many startups, the work environment is not for the faint of heart. The company has prioritized product development over culture building which is both an intelligent business move but can leave the daily culture a bit lacking.

Huge opportunity and great vibe

- Great market traction, the product is solving real pains for customers. Customers are raving about the product.
- Huge industry, waiting for disruption
- "Get sh*t done" attitude
- "If it doesn't work - then let's change it" attitude. Not a single soul at HB is waiting around for things to magically get better by themselves. Everything is a prototype. I love that sense of urgency, and that's why I work at a start up.
- Incredibly smart and humble people
- Open and transparent vibe, lots of collaboration going on
- While I seven days a week choose cool and smart people and real problems to solve over some snacks or a free lunch here and there, can't complain about the perks. Unlimited vacay and sick days. Sick!

- Some growth pains. Hiring is tough, but needed. Finding the right internal processes and structures without slowing things down is tough, but needed.
- We do need a next level office soon, with our own style, and even more space to collaborate.
I'm really surprised about the negative reviews, almost in shock, but I guess it's maybe like Yelp in a way. It's either 1 or 5, and if you don't like your experience you're more likely to submit a review. Well, here's a positive review to balance it out. Without being asked to submit one.
Is it the perfectest job ever? No. If you're looking for that, you will do nothing but look for the rest of your life. Is it damn good job where you learn a lot every day? Hells yes.

Joking aside, I learned a ton here because I care about my career and wanted the company to do well. I had plenty of opportunities to make things better.

They have a reputation of mass layoffs. I knew this going in and I wish I had listened to those who told me. I really wanted the best for HB, but they never seemed to know what they wanted for themselves.
Hours were long, work-life balance sucked and demands were unrealistic. Leadership was vague, unsupportive, and sent mixed messages. Feedback was never clear and direct. Fire at will was a best practice. They don’t care about your career growth nor are they willing to train you to learn things outside of your core skillset. It’s easier for them to fire you and find someone else.
If you do decide to work here despite the other horrible reviews I’ll give you one piece of advice: Ask for your equity to vest on DAY ONE, not after one year. Maybe then the organization would consider investing in you as they expect you to invest in them.
And those glowing reviews from December 2017 are hilariously from the leadership trying to fluff their Glassdoor rating. Nice try! Maybe if you didn’t treat people as disposable objects you wouldn’t have to do that.

Snacks are average; Office is very very very cramped; Lunch on Fridays is OK but never really that great.
|
This is a place where people get fired "at will" and with "no cause" and the only difference between you being next or not, is just a matter of time.
The leadership team tries to embody a place of "can do attitude" and "vision", but in honesty it's just a place where leadership is trying to bolster their own career and get to the next point in each of their lives with out any regard to your own.
It's an organization that is destined to fail either by product, leadership, or competition. No reason to waste your time joining something that is headed to the dumpster.
In case you do decide to work here, the only advice I would give you is be very very very careful of the leadership team. They are unstable and irrational and not knowing this fact will lead to your own personal downfall.
If you don't believe this review, then please read other employee's disgust for this company. It's all in the negative reviews posted.
One more thing to note: the positive reviews are just the leadership team trying to make the company seem better than it is.
If you still don't believe me, then look at the dates of when the "positive" reviews are posted. The reviews are all posted on Glassdoor within days of each other. Coincidence? I think not.
