Love's has a great company culture that everyone at the top is committed to. District, area, and division managers are eager to make the company a better place for the frontline employee. CEO visits each store and actively makes time to listen to frontline employees and implement rules based off of their input. That's what I loved about Love's.
|
As usual, frontline employees get the brunt of the workload. Your schedule is dictated by whether the next shift shows up or not. If they don't show up, you could end up working 16 hours and still be expected to show up for your next scheduled shift. This is my biggest gripe - I did not enjoy having my schedule dependent on another person's presence, or lack thereof.
You also do not get benefits from day 1 - you will have to wait 30 days from the date of your employment to even get benefits, and you don't accrue any vacation time until you are six months in (full-time), even if you entered as a manager. This is because Love's has a high turnover rate at their stores, which is unsurprising. Gas stations are usually not anyone's dream job, but a truck stop is even more challenging to work at.

Store level management needs to accept that it is better to be short-staffed with good employees, than be at full capacity with mediocre employees. Bonuses should take into consideration how many employees a manager was able to promote or get into the RTS program, rather than customer satisfaction (those restroom buttons are a waste of time).

Truck drivers are terrible customers. The daily verbal abuse you have to endure is crazy. Because the starting pay is not hight enough, it is difficult to get and keep employees to run a 24/7 operation. This job pretty much made me hate people.

Moving up is possible with patience and a lot of sacrifice. You might be asked to run different stores in the area (up to an hour drive away) but thats what you have to do to get noticed. Be willing to work crazy hours at times. The pressure never really let's up, constant evaluations, inspections, micro management from above store level.
Add all of this to a terrible customer base, and your stress levels will continue to go up.
