Mcleodganj Tea House shares teas, equipage and accompaniments by invitation with discerning tea drinkers and connoisseurs around the world. Mcleodganj Tea House complements a 150 year legacy in tea growing, blending and brewing with state of the art technology to create memorable tea ceremonies for the greatest residences, finest hotels, classiest homes and most powerful offices on ground, on sea and in the air.
When the British Commissioner to China relocated to India as the Viceroy of British India - he set up his summer home in the sylan Dauladhar hills in what is now called Mcleodganj in 1860. He was surprised to find the shrubs refered to as Tea in China in his estate and went about bringing in modern cultivation techniques to tea which has today made India the worlds largest producer consumer of tea.
The Viceroy set up a private tea house in a building called the Mortimer House around 1860 which was catered to and operated by Nowrosjee & Son which had been newly established. The Viceroy's residence was known far and wide as an outstanding host for elaborate tea ceremonies. To this date, Mcleodganj which is the second wettest place on earth and one of the highest hill stations in India produces a very exquisite type of green tea which has been used for generations to make the royal version of the Kashmiri Kahwa and as an additive to the finest Darjeeling teas to give it a unique aroma and flavour.
