There is such a disconnect between employees, management, and home office. Beware this company. 0.0 0.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 Jan 27th, 2021 07:32AM Mar 19th, 2021 07:55PM Mud Bay Food Producers

Muddies are a group of people who are passionate about pets and customers. The culture is great; MB spends a lot of time investing in people through education, leadership training, and team bonding events. No company is without its faults, and of course Mud Bay has its own, but none that have a been a deal breaker for me. MB is always trying to grow, and has a lot of different departments that don't always talk to each other. But I have felt like more than just a number, and have met a lot of great people along the way. camaraderie, culture limited opportunities for advancement the longer you are with the company 0.0 0.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 Jan 27th, 2021 07:32AM Mar 20th, 2021 01:04PM Mud Bay Food Producers
private:mudbay https://www.indeed.com/cmp/mud-bay/reviews Dec 10th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Open Mud Bay Store Staff Kent, WA USA Fun job, but not without its faults. I worked with Mudbay for a year. I loved going into work to see customers and their pets. Executive staff at home office was very helpful and positive, but store employees compete with each other and gossip against past and current employees. Every store is different and has different policies chosen by the store specific management and DM. Can be disheartening and confusing. Possible advancement is near impossible, so be ready to put multiple years of experience working at Mudbay as well as prepare to be a nag in order to advance regardless of past leadership experience on your resume. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend working for Mudbay unless the aforementioned doesn’t bother you. Discounts, animals, helping pet owners Workplace gossip, unrealistic expectations for advancement, unhealthy competition between staff, inconsistent management 0.0 0.0 3.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 4.0 1.0 Jan 27th, 2021 07:32AM Mar 20th, 2021 01:04PM Mud Bay Food Producers
private:mudbay https://www.indeed.com/cmp/mud-bay/reviews Nov 16th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Open Mud Bay Store Manager Lake Forest Park, WA USA Focused on development and culture. Mud Bay has been a great place to work. They are focused on their people and building a culture that welcomes all, as well as develops their muddies toward their greatest potential. They are passionate about the animals and communities they serve, and they walk the walk: when they tell you about being a "good jobs" company, they do everything they can to follow Zeynep Ton's principles. The management schedule is difficult for the realities of being a single parent, otherwise I would remain with Mud Bay through to my retirement. Mud Bay's development programs and training have helped to hone my leadership skills in a way that no other company has before. The culture: they really care about their people. It's a retail schedule - not always a reliable. 0.0 0.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 Jan 27th, 2021 07:32AM Mar 20th, 2021 01:07PM Mud Bay Food Producers
private:mudbay https://www.indeed.com/cmp/mud-bay/reviews Nov 3rd, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Open Mud Bay Retail Sales Associate Olympia, WA USA Lots to learn, great people if placed in a good store with a good manager Great company until you advance to a manager. Good pay for staff and leads but not so much manager position after years of being a manager(not any raises) people and work values are great. The higher up you get the more problems you see(typical for any company) it usr to be a smaller company but its grown quickly which has had some downfalls.id recommended visiting the store before applying to make sure they're welcoming good people. Good people. Competitive pay. 15 min breaks 30 min lunches. Discounts on product. Healthcare isnt great, Some managers arent great and hire other likely people, Depends on the store if its good or not. 0.0 0.0 3.0 3.0 5.0 3.0 2.0 1.0 Jan 27th, 2021 07:32AM Mar 20th, 2021 01:08PM Mud Bay Food Producers
private:mudbay https://www.indeed.com/cmp/mud-bay/reviews Nov 1st, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Open Mud Bay Sales Associate - Retail Washington State Not a place for diversity or advancement. The experience I had at this company was one of frustrating assumptions of character and work experience was a daily hurdle I had to overcome. Not only was I conned into thinking advancement in this company was a simple thing to do but it also showed me the dark side of each store and the bias outcomes that come with working in those environmens. Not only was I affected but I also saw other "muddies" being affected as well. I also still know people who are high up and keep me in the loop still and am glad I do not have to deal with the reverb that is happening. I would go into more detail but like one other reviewer stated " it's a cult more than a company." and I would totally agree with that statement and would be willing to bet that some of the current muddies working would take it into their own hands to stop bad reviews. But I retract and only go by my experiences, which I would not wish upon anyone, and hope this little tidbit helps. A workplace better suited for younger people who need to have a taste of fast paced retail. Advancement can be easy for some, aka management favorites or just hired on with experience, which will happen. Most management is hired based on "past experience" and usually has no clue about the "mud bay culture" which will turn a store upside down and cause aspiring muddies to feel left out, especially if the person was a long time employee, and will cause more of a backlash than the DMs and other managers think. Once again, My experiences were my own and my views are my own and I do not condone nor would I tell someone not to work for mud bay, in fact is would encourage it and see for yourself what a 6 month mud bay career could bring you. Some instances are great! But you might see the not so pretty side of the so called "employee ran , family owned!" experience you hear about, or see and hear from others. Working with some muddies was great! Management and fractured outlook of culture and a strong outlook on being inclusive. 0.0 0.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 Jan 27th, 2021 07:32AM Mar 20th, 2021 01:08PM Mud Bay Food Producers
private:mudbay https://www.indeed.com/cmp/mud-bay/reviews Oct 18th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Open Mud Bay From store staff to manager From Oregon locations to Washington to HQ USA A toxic and hostile workplace with lack of empathy Diversity, bullying, and nepotism are common themes brought up throughout ten years of reviews from Glassdoor to Indeed. This displays no interest in addressing or even making efforts toward resolving these issues. Nepotism alone generates an environment of bullying. Combine that with a lack of empathy-- you end up with a highly toxic working environment. With a lack of diversity, an employee may feel singled out and unwilling to speak out. Combine that with punitive measures against employees voicing concerns about behaviors, decisions, and actions at a workplace-- you end up with a highly hostile working environment. This is a retail pet store. Therefore, a retail job you're applying to and advancement into a "career" is slim to none. Verbiage and phrasing including but not limited to "muddies", "family", and "employee-owned" should be viewed as recruiting/marketing tactics. Jobseekers-- Best of luck and I hope you find the place that is best for you and where you can thrive and grow. Good employee discount and you get to see neighborhood pets from day to day. Along with the lack of support from manager to district manager to HR and HQ, expectations can consistently change, making it impossible to quantify employee contributions toward raises and company goals. 0.0 0.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 Jan 27th, 2021 07:32AM Mar 19th, 2021 07:58PM Mud Bay Food Producers
private:mudbay https://www.indeed.com/cmp/mud-bay/reviews Oct 7th, 2020 12:00AM Open Open Open Mud Bay Store Manager Puget Sound Area, WA USA More focused on Legacy than their own People They have a lot of growing to do as a company and their biggest opportunity is the infighting among their upper management who can't decide what it is they want to do. While this happens store teams are stuck trying to figure things out for themselves as long as it lives up to their "Mud Bay Values". Their focus on people is superficial at best and the only concern of the CEOs (a brother and sister) is that they are more focused on their family's legacy than they are at running an effective business. There is a cult mentality there and if you don't fit in they will find ways to push you out. Finally, they would rather build more stores and locations than they offer that money to pay a decent wage to their store staff, managers, or even their own DMs. If you like cults then, by all means, work here but just be careful about how much of the Kool-Aid the force you to drink. The amount of community outreach they do is just mind blowing. The training involved to work there is very thorough and they always work to improve that training. 0.0 0.0 5.0 3.0 5.0 3.0 4.0 3.0 Jan 27th, 2021 07:32AM Mar 20th, 2021 01:09PM Mud Bay Food Producers
