The company has turned very corporate. Company loyalty has gone away. Several inept managers hired from outside. No clear ladder system for advancement. Little to no development opportunities. Stock options offered are a percent of a percent which i guess is better than nothing. Seems like there are some employees who do the majority of the work while there are others that seems to have unlimited time off. Not a lot of accountability from management.

The company gives a lot of amenities that you would expect of a bigger company. That includes some unique ones to their business - short weeks in the summer and a bank of special PTO called Get Out Get Active. There is also money given every year to spend on being active and money to buy onX swag. The pay is pretty good. They have made efforts over the years to bring up pay based on tech sector standards. There is revenue share for hitting sales goals each year and stock options. There is a lot of fun people working there. Work and play boundaries often blurred and allowed everyone to come out of their shell a bit more. The slack emoji game is strong here. There are innovation days regularly and a hack-a-thon yearly to allow you to work creatively and possibly work with people you don't normally interact with. There are incredibly smart people here who actually will teach you cool stuff. It is a product you can enjoy using and has a passionate userbase. They are an industry leader in recreational mapping.

A disturbing amount of nepotism. It permeates so much of the company especially at the top. It keeps getting worse with more recent changes in leadership. It seems to be part of the culture at this point. Don't have expectations of advancing your career. They rather hire someone outside the company instead of lift up their employees. HR is either ignoring issues or is ineffectual. Lack of career mobility is a universal long standing complaint from onX employees that HR knows of. They went so far as to hire a person to address it. There was no change. Management is confusing. Most resource or internal decisions seem to be based on "what other tech companies do". Not what the company actually needs. Often leaders are extremely narrow minded and stubborn about the product. Management is never accountable because there are no metrics about internal efficiency. It is dangerous to question leadership decisions. I have witnessed and personally experienced professional gaslighting. This company has taken some big missteps in how it has grown. Negative aspects of the company will most likely never change because HUNT is extremely successful. It was a good idea executed with passion by a smart leader who carefully choose how the company grew. That original passion and care about the company is gone. It is replaced with greed and ego.
