The drawback for me is that the place is not dog-friendly. However, Via compensates for this with the option of hybrid work.

The people and the mission are the two things that attracted me to Via and that keep me here.
The People:
- Everyone at Via is whip smart. I truly feel like the way I approach solving problems now, after several years at Via, is at a majorly different level from when I started.
- Via is a fairly flat org and having the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from incredible junior associates all the way up to c-suite level leaders is rare for a company of this size.
- Not only are Via team members smart, they are deeply kind. Whenever work is challenging, or I'm struggling in my personal life, I always feel like I can go to my colleagues for additional support.
- As a queer person who didn't come from a traditional tech background, I love that I can bring my full self to work and not only do my colleagues accept me but they celebrate me.
Mission:
- What we have the privilege of doing, powering public transit, is a serious responsibility and I love getting to work with other people who are passionate about making cities and communities more accessible through public transit.
- I find it especially meaningful to get to work on projects that make transit more accessible for seniors and folks with disabilities.

Via's relatively flat org structure can sometimes make it hard to navigate as a new joiner. Because we hire awesome people who often take on new responsibilities based on their interests and strengths, sometimes you need to find someone on an unexpected team to get an answer or get something done. I've experienced this causing some frustration.
Via is also definitely a fast paced environment and depending on the team or the role there may be travel, late nights, or early mornings in store for you. An evening of working late and sharing some dumplings with fun colleagues is something that I find enjoyable, as long as it is not every night. If that's not something that works for you I would definitiely make sure to learn more about the expectations of the specific team you're looking to join!
