This shift can largely be attributed to a strategic change in leadership, where experienced leaders have been instrumental in guiding the company into its next stage of growth. My experience at Scribd has been exceptionally positive. The company fosters a culture where results-driven individuals and those who take pride in their work are recognized and rewarded. Scribd is also committed to maintaining profitability without compromising on employee care. The benefits are comprehensive, and the HR team is continually seeking ways to enhance it. During my tenure, I've witnessed the expansion of various allowances, the addition of extra holidays, and the launch of new training and development programs accessible to all employees. Scribd is not a place for those looking to merely get by. It is a dynamic environment where motivated people are encouraged to excel, learn from peers, and make a meaningful impact. Flexible schedule and remote work. Lots of employee engagement activities available. Executive management seems to tell lies constantly throughout the year about Scribds stability instead of leading with complete transparency in terms of reductions in force. They promised on several occasions there would not be lay offs and there were 2 thereafter. The Chief of Staff (BD) is extremely insecure about her position and it shows in the way she oversteps into every single staff memebers business even when it really has nothing to do with her. They also pay for all employee benefits, minus some dependents and elective coverages. There seems to be very little care for the wellbeing of any department that's below the C-Suite, culminating in gratuitous and quite frankly exploitative layoffs. The company keeps telling everyone that the financials are looking good but have had multiple rounds of layoffs this year. The CTO pushed the team to finish a big project and then laid off a core part of the team. The CTO has no idea how to run or organize the Engineering team, resulting in multiple restructuring of the teams causing a lot of disruption. private:scribd https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=354208 Dec 21st, 2023 12:00AM Open Open Scribd Manager Dysfunctional and not friendly toward marginalized groups/allies Remote-friendly culture, decent benefits, a few good people who work there (but rare) Enough people on Glassdoor have already described why Scribd is dysfunctional and toxic, so +1 to those descriptions—especially the lack of strategy and coherent or sensical creative vision as their new brands launch. Additionally, as highlighted by previous reviews, layoffs (multiple per year) disproportionately affect people from marginalized groups (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, etc)—at a company that has nearly zero diversity. If you’re not laid off and identify with these communities (or are an ally or advocate), the Scribd workplace is not great. I’ve seen derogatory and highly offensive ideas being perpetuated as the company ushered in its new brands (as if it’s the year 1923, not 2023). Then staff are minimized and demeaned if they speak up to hold them accountable. Leaders/managers tend to be intimidated by people who are intelligent/experienced and who challenge their worldview—and they act as if their world/their job is more important than it is—at the expense of others. For a company that says its doing well, they laid off about 10% of it's staff on 12/8/23. Merry Christmas. This is on top of the smaller layoffs throughout the year. Not really a sign of success, no matter how you try to frame it. And, for the second time within 2023, the layoffs have impacted women of color more than men.
