It was neglected by HQ. *It felt like high school cliques by the end *Benefits become golden handcuff *Cult mentality *Decisions are made in USA with disregard to UK/European cultural norms and even laws *Goalposts constantly changing & with little notice, but it apparently your fault that they didn’t tell you *Little opportunity for promotion in the UK. Promotions depended on who you knew and all the decision makers were in NYC. UK employees were often passed over for people in the USA with less experience *it felt like US managers used UK to improve their cvs and disregarded the people here for their own vainglorious gain. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 5.0 2.0 3.0 2.0 1.0 4.0 2.0 504626 Open *hire people who are aware of UK employment law *Stop forcing Americanism on UK staff. private:stackexchange https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=504626 Apr 15th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open Stack Overflow Product Manager Dishonesty is rampant Good benefits with very few good people left in the organization. Dishonest C-suite. The new CEO was hired in 2019, after tumultuous years of pain and change. There was initial excitement. That all diminished after 6 months, when people in the company began to notice that he is way out of his depth. The CEO has no idea what he is doing. Extremely poor leadership skills which are obvious, considering the people he has hired onto his newly VERY WHITE direct reports. It's almost as he is trying to overcompensate for himself. Fear is rampant with cross functional departments blaming each other for failures. Poor communication from every single person on the leadership team. Not one person on that team could be trusted. That entire team should be embarrassed. HR turns a blind eye because they are afraid of being fired. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 7.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 3.0 1.0 504626 Open No advice. private:stackexchange https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=504626 Apr 14th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open Stack Overflow Developer YMMV, but it's a good thing for your resume * There's still amazing people there. If you are lucky, you will have the opportunity to learn a lot and do interesting things * It does looks good on your resume * You are at the mercy of your luck. If you land on a bad team or with a bad manager you will hate your job * The company says they care a lot about diversity, which is a good thing. Unfortunately, it ends there without any real effort to improve it. It's actually getting much worse * HR says they care about people. Once again, it's just empty words * Company says they care about the communities. Once again, it's just empty words. * There's not much support for junior devs * People in different orgs have *very* different experiences * The CEO is out of his depth. Doesn't understand what Stack Overflow is and what made it great. He's trying to turn Stack Overflow into a big bureaucratic place * HR uses OfficeVibe to measure employee satisfaction. Yet the questions on OfficeVibe are engineered so that you say good things about the company. They ask questions like "how environmentally conscious is your organization?". OfficeVibe never asks for any of the things people are uncomfortable about, which in the ends makes it look as if everyone is happy We used to have the ability to post anonymous questions on the AMAs. When somebody mentioned the possibility of unionizing, the CEO looked clearly uncomfortable. Just saying that you're reaching out to diverse folks isn't enough * It's great that you lean on the BnB affinity group, but those are people that are not being paid to lead those initiatives. HIRE PEOPLE to help you fix the diversity problem. What you're doing is not enough * Call layoffs what they are: layoffs * If you ask someone to leave, say so. It's better than hearing through the grapevine and you can control the narrative * Spend some time learning about the company and our communities * Bring back safe spaces for people to ask uncomfortable questions 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 4.0 Apr 22nd, 2021 09:02PM Apr 22nd, 2021 09:02PM Stack Exchange Technology Software & Computer Services
private:stackexchange https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=504626 Apr 14th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open Stack Overflow Account Executive Awful, awful place. Don’t put yourself through it. I have to write 5 words. There’s nothing else to say. Just laid off 30+ people in the recruitment platform division after explicitly saying they wouldn’t. Cheered everyone on during Q1, congratulating etc.. only to close it and lay everyone off a week later. CRO and CEO are just buddying together to get any none white folks out the door it seems. CEO is completely out of his depth and should resign to help Stack Overflow IPO as they plan to. private:stackexchange https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=504626 Apr 8th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open Stack Overflow Sales New York, NY Highly Toxic Environment -- BEWARE! There are pockets of very kind, generous, intelligent people dedicated to the mission of the company. Unfortunately most of these people are undervalued and are rarely recognized if they aren't in sales and making their numbers. There are many: - First time CEO was hired in 2019 and his inexperience shows BIGTIME. He talks a good game but moves like an EMPTY SUIT. Feels like he's at the company for a quick flip, exit and payday. - Very TOXIC environment created by the CEO and CRO -- heavy meetings culture, undue stress imposed through unrealistic deadlines and micromanaging, a huge emphasis is placed on sales performance at the expense of all else. The management team presents a very confusing, non-transparent message on the company's direction. - Its very easy to see that the CEO favors sales especially the CRO (who is a mercenary sales leader). The CRO has been given carte blanche to run sales however he wants - During several town halls both the CEO and CRO explicitly said there would be no layoffs in Talent despite the product line being impacted by COVID. In fact, both gave the impression the Talent business was doing well on several occasions. The CRO was cheering us on as the quarter went on only to cut all of us suddenly one week after the quarter closed. Huge disconnect with the message vs. the actions of the management team - CRO regularly shames sales staff publicly for taking a day off or a minor mistake. Its disgusting and HR knows about it and should be embarrassed to allow this to happen. - There was been a steady decline in both gender and racial diversity (almost seems intentional this is coming from a white male) in a two month period our VP Customer Success, CFO, VP of People (all people of color) were all let go. The company positioned it as they voluntarily left but this was not the case. I've notice they have all been replace by non folks of color. Again HR knows about this and should be embarrassed to allow this to happen. Diversity and inclusion is a JOKE are this company-- again this is coming from a white male perspective! - Management did not invest in the Talent product for years, did not provide any marketing support for years yet expected all of sales to make their numbers consistently. Yet all Talent sales are laid off and no one from any other dept affect? -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 22.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 4.0 1.0 504626 Open I'm not going to provide any advice as the CEO believes he knows everything and would not listen. private:stackexchange https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=504626 Mar 18th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open Stack Overflow Remote Employee London, England, England Downhill morale, Stack is tanking in investing in the thing that makes it great: it's people Good sense of work/life balance, Stack seems to understand that well and respects that boundary, autonomy to work at your own pace with respectable timelines for deliverables, 100% remote at the moment due to pandemic with flexible return to office timeline In the past 6 months, there's been a mass exodus of some really incredible folks who helped develop so much of the foundation that Stack stands on, the range of people who have left spans from the remote developer all the way to HR (sad to see the best HR person leave) to CFO (who just left about a month ago). Sadly, these gaps are being mass filled with folks who don't understand or care about Stack's mission - and the turnover is insane. With senior leadership focused only on $$$, they are actually losing the real talent that IS stack overflow by hiring corporate paper pushers (ahem, called "Managers" or "Directors" at Stack) to install faulty structures across teams that don't need it, increasing redundancy and a high turn over rate. Even the HR team is at its wits end. Stack Overflow is notorious for not paying market rate salaries - though they've raised $$ from private funding. Sales staff continuously face higher and higher unattainable quotas while never being paid out correctly due to poor structure on the finance side. Without the CFO, the finance team is struggling to keep head above water. See ya never, commissions. As a woman of color, you will be in the minority as you watch many of your non POC male colleagues make their way up into positions of leadership. Diversity, once a major highlight at Stack, has tanked significantly while leadership does nothing to assess their commitment to a diverse workplace. In 2020 alone, Stack has lost a huge portion of its diverse workforce. Can we talk about this? Stack is a bit of a mess, the senior leadership team is driving it into the ground with a laser focus on $$$ and not PEOPLE - wake up, it's 2021, time for some changes. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 20.0 2.0 4.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 504626 Open Invest in the people who make your company great and the $$$ will follow. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 2.0 Apr 22nd, 2021 09:02PM Apr 22nd, 2021 09:02PM Stack Exchange Technology Software & Computer Services

A lot of good people got fired. Including top performers. I took a vacation at the beginning of last year for 2 weeks. Was supposed to have 3-4 ent deals close. As soon as I get back they changed my role and I couldn’t get any commissions from those deals. The people that are there currently are reaping the rewards of other peoples hard work. Marketing sucks. Like really sucks. They constantly attack reps.
