Sure, shopping lists can be a useful way of remembering what to buy down the supermarket, and of course to-do lists help us remember what to do once we’ve done that thing we were going to do, but lists really come alive when they are used to rank things in order of greatness. “The Best Goals of All Time”, “The Greatest Beatles Albums Ever”, these are the lists that stir good memories and stimulate the best conversation. We really like these lists. We especially enjoy Top 5 lists. Five is the perfect number of things to list in order of greatness. We began making Top Five lists circa 2005 – “Top 5 Albums of The Year”, “Top 5 Robert De Niro Movies”. It was a fun topic to discuss and compare notes with friends. We started to compile our Top 5 lists into a notebook, hoping to record them for posterity. Before too long, but after much conversation, we’d made hundreds of Top 5 lists on all kinds of different categories. Often one list would lead to the next, and mostly the discussion was the best part. We still have the original old notebook. It is now filled with hundreds of Top 5 lists on weird and wonderful categories. Open Open Top Top Fives
