LEARN THE TRUTH
Summary
We are seeking an experienced Conversion Rate Optimization Specialist / manager (CRO) to join our marketing team. As a Conversion Rate Optimization Specialist at Tuft & Needle, you will be responsible for managing, testing and implementing conversion points in the marketing funnel. You will work directly with paid traffic, marketing, creative, and data science teams to drive success and scale the business. You would be responsible for optimizing Tuft and Needle’s lead generation and conversion strategy. This position is a bit of a Jack-of-all-Trades position, with a method to the madness.
There are a number of skills, abilities and personality traits that makeup the ideal candidate. This is a position for a polymath, an optimizer that is not only multi-disciplinary, but also a non-stop learner. You will need to be comfortable with copywriting, data, analytics and testing. We are looking for a lead who can combine processes with flexibility, data with wise iteration, and curiosity with perseverance.
We believe setting up successful tests require getting into the minds of your target audience, which takes research, analysis and people skills. Empathy + curiosity + psychology + data = win. Any person can look at website copy and design/UX and say“this is awful”, but a great CRO should be able to articulate exactly what isn’t working, what could be better and why.

Tuft & Needle was formed in 2012 when co-founders JT and Daehee left their jobs as software engineers. After a terrible experience trying to buy a mattress, the team set out to make a mattress and experience that people could love.
We view Tuft & Needle not as a mattress company that makes software, but as a software company that sells mattresses. We’re a small team of passionate full-stack developers. We frequently seek out advice from each other and believe in continuous learning. We’re incredibly focused on results and don’t expect specific, regular hours in the office (we have a pretty sweet office though). Although sometimes we pair program, we aren’t religious about it. We believe process should be extracted from things that are working well.
Our stack consists primarily of ES5/ES2016, React, Redux, Express, Middleman, HAML, Pug, SASS, Ruby, Rails, and Postgres and is deployed to Now and S3. Our codebase has excellent test coverage and we have CircleCI for continuous integration and believe strongly in continuous deployment. Test coverage is currently being rewritten in the form of end to end tests with Cypress.
We’re looking for someone to join our engineering team as a front-end developer for tuftandneedle.com as well as our internal CRM and administration systems. You’ll collaborate with the rest of the engineering team on developing new features to our public site as well as our internal applications and assisting with marketing efforts to rapidly test and implement changes to the existing public content. Our ideal candidate will be fluent in HTML and CSS and have experience with preprocessors like HAML, SASS, LESS, Pug, or Stylus. Being a well-rounded JavaScript developer is more important than knowing the latest MV* framework or knowing what bleeding-edge tools are being developed.
