Uniqlo attempts to a work culture of unity and diversity which works managers tend to push work and projects on employees during peak hours causing frustrations. Many of my co workers are enjoyable people who are a pleasure to work with. Customers tend to be over bearing and over demanding expecting to be treated like a king by a worker who is making minimum wage. Hours are rather cut easily from workers causing a lack of sufficient workers during the day if there are call outs. Mid day shifts feel the longest, and closing shifts are just the people that have to deal with everything that was left behind during the whole day. Sometimes the same people will be picked for a shift in a row, meaning you'll probably see the same 7 people working a closing shift 4 days in a row (5pm - 2am). I worked at the location in Disney Springs and because we have guests with that type of mindset sometimes it can be challenging when you deal with them. It's a nice workplace however and despite everything you build a bond with your coworkers that I've found it hard to mimic in my other workplaces. You have a daily routine of going over the previous day numbers like what top 5 items are selling for each category, how much $$ we made. If you're working on days where the shipment comes in & you don't got space it can be hard to walk through the back. If we're not making target $$ hours get cut quite a lot. You can sometimes pickup somebody's shift or ask if they need help. It's a 50-50 job experiencing depending on who you work with and what shifts you work at. But whatever you do stay away from this store. Management is horrible, they just sit in an office all day and do absolutely nothing to help the store. They also have favorites, they promote who they want regardless of how hard you work. Managers are cowards.. wont stand up for employees and wont even handle customer escalations. Also they want to train you to do more stuff and get more responsibilities but for the same pay. Managers break company policies all the time and never get in trouble. Theyll fire anyone for literally anything. Lots of gossip between managers and operations employees. They have these “store visits” where higher rank managers from Japan comes to the store to see if everything is running correctly and managers will literally create the illusion that the store is perfect.. theyll lie about inventory.. they over stock items and theyll argue and get mad at you for leaving at your scheduled time (they want you to stay extra all the time to finish their mess). If you have open availability youre basically going to close every single day which means working peak hours and cleaning the mess of the openers while also having to close the store. They will over work their employees, with little pay, and in order to move up, you would have to pass their rigged tests to get a promotion, even if you are a custodian. As well as they will not cover you if one of their stores are shutting down, if you are a veteran for their company. They provide insurance, the 1 hr breaks are great. They expected you to fold the way they taught you to fold in training (at least 8 hours spent on how to fold each specific item) and would get yelled at if you did not do it the UNIQLO way. It was impossible to keep up with the displays during the holidays. Coworkers are great and the culture is friendly and emphasizes cleanliness.
