I could tell I was a diversity hire by how security treated me, but I took the job because of the prestige and my family used to own property across the street until we were gentrified out in the ‘80’s. I thought it was a good luck omen of a closing cycle. I was sat on the floor at a very small, elementary school sized desk although I’m very tall, right next to the managing partner’s office and got humiliated based on my previous job as a justice advocate. Was told that “the incarcerated didn’t deserve to live” as the child of the unjustly incarcerated based on outdated laws. The next day a person from HR came to me and told everyone I didn’t graduate from HS because she couldn’t find any of the four transcripts in my maiden name in her system. They sent me on a “business trip” where the staff would call me “homegirl” instead of my name for four days straight and vice president called me a lesbian like it was an insult (I’m married to a cis man). They broke my personal computer and refused to replace it. I walked out crying on my first day back in San Carlos
