A typical workday at carmax was coming into office, logging onto computer, checking email, running my reports needed to begin my day and saying good morning to everyone in the chat. Each dept has their own pros and cons.

Store atmosphere as a whole is great, everyone gets along. Pay is great and scheduling can be flexible. Awesome co workers and benefits. Tuition reimbursement is also a great benefit and was the reason I have stayed.

I worked for CarMax for 11 years. It was initially an amazing company that deserved the Fortune Top 100 status it attained. However, things have changed. Post-COVID has really shocked CarMax into a negative space. They are terrified of losing market share, they are terrified of unionization, and they are TERRIFIED of Carvana and what they are doing.
As a manager there, your role will be to maintain strong relationships with all of your people, while being at the ready for the company at all times. If you are capable of living a double life, being two-faced, and not living up to your word - CarMax is for you!!

A culture of fear and intimidation

Hardest part of the job is management. They place people into management positions who actually don’t know how to deal with people or employees. The culture for me was very fearful and retaliatory. My manager could not take contructive criticism, and anyone who spoke out were fired.

Work from home and CEC, I was by self in a coner so it was so good and they will not micromanaging but if you don't get the numbers will be on top of you. All depends of the manager.

A Call Center vibes with a lot phone calls and depends in wich position you select. They allways will leasing your calls and even when you are not in a call.

Most peers were kind and helpful. Management was informative and worked with you when needed. Weekly ongoing classes are required for all sales representatives. Commission pay scale could use a boost.
