It's a new standard that's been made for me and I wouldn't want it any other way. Marco Polo makes it easy to love not only the product that we offer but also love the people that we get to work with. If remote work isn't for you, this would be a difficult job to do. Everyone truly cares about enriching relationships. • Lots of daily autonomy • Deep respect for life outside of core working hours • Day-to-day interactions between coworkers feel grounded in curiosity and possibility rather than judgement and politics • Quarterly self-care days are highly encouraged and are completely separate from sick/PTO days • Leadership does NOT rely on folks working nights and weekends to meet goals • Lots of room for making good engineering decisions • No unrealistic or artificial deadlines • Minimal org structure often leads to confusion about responsibilities • There are sometimes many competing demands without clear priority and sequencing • The poor employee churn:acquisition ratio on some teams is a morale buster • Employee feedback system is weak, there is no guarantee that you'll get feedback from people who control your fate/compensation at the company • Quarterly planning can be rough. Some teams get left out of the process • Sometimes leadership asks someone to work on something new without first taking an inventory of what they're currently focused on.
