It can get extremely busy during annual sales times. Christmas shopping provides extra hours for those seeking a boost in their income at this time of the year. Overall, Target was a friendly place to work, as with any place of employment if you are there long enough you will hear rumours about other staff members so my advice on this is to not become involved or spread the gossip, be up front and honest with all co-workers and friendly and helpful at all times with customers no matter what their attitude may be, kindness always works better in the end. As well as face to face and phone customer service. You'll probably have to run back and forth from the registers as well, as the team is regularly cut back to save money and too small for things to run smoothly. But don't forget all your other work that needs to be completed as well. I loved going to work because of the people that I got to work with. My Target family has given me friends for life. Managment is bullying to you, I was once mocked for not being able to pull a heavy pallet with a manual pallet jack due to a severe shoulder injury. When I told him I could not do the job and he laughed at me, he then got mad at me for not completing the job. I'm sorry but that's just toxic behaviour. Some coworkers are good, if you can relate to them. 80% of all employees just complain about their life, and are grumpy and snap at you all the time. I've been yelled at by numerous coworkers in my department for helping other departments. I've even had one coworker go to a store manager to complain that I was helping other employees? Work place gossip is real. Workers will make up rumours and spread them, and coworkers are always telling you some story about someone who's working there. A very toxic workplace. If management don't like you, they'll get rid of your shifts. When casual, I gave 3 weeks notice to go on a 3 day holiday. My manager told me that because of this he was going to cut my hours. I went from 30 hours a week to 5. All because I took a 3 day trip. By law, as a casual I had no obligation to take assigned shifts, and I even gave 3 weeks notice. They will constantly hire new employees to look good to the public. What some people don't realise that when they hire too many people, some employees aren't going to get shifts. I haven't had a single shift in a year, and they've had 4 influxes of new employees. This is often referred to as 'lost in the system' by other employees, and will happen to you if you don't suck up to the management. The customers are rude, expect you to know everything, and think because you're wearing a polo that they can take the anger from their small, meaningless lives out on you. Management do barely anything to support employees with this issue. Overall, the pay is good as a casual. Much higher than other retail positions. However, this does not compensate that the company is a toxic workplace. As someone who was wrongly fired i have nothing nice to say about the company. Staff are extreme and always on edge due to management that are bullies and favor likewise qualities in the general staff. As for products. its done to make only profit. your buying the cheapest stuff that will last no more then 2 years. The 'Manger' and 'Assistant Manager' bleating on about their years of experience and yet both were lazy and highly emotional shirkers who constantly insulted the area manager with the phone on silent during weekly calls. No idea of leadership and unwilling to listen to those that do know. Their idea of management was to slope off early or sit around in the office while an under resourced team floundered on the shop floor. The best experience was seeing a social media page left logged on by the assistant manager with a stream of insults about the team and area manager. Such professionalism! The fact that Bunnings hires this type of loafer is indicative of the entire culture, hence some of these honest reviews about poor leadership. Those in charge are way out of their depth, have very low skill levels, and strive to drag everyone else down to their level. Ineptitude is rife & no one seems to know what they are doing. The business has no professional managers- only those good at making sales & fleecing clients. Personnel with above average skill levels eventually throw their hands in the air in despair & eventually give up trying to educate those in charge. The business creates resources 'on the fly', without undertaking due diligence checks, or even confirming it's what the client needs....the almighty dollar rules, and it is no place for anyone with a conscience. The business onsells their services at a premium cost, and provide unskilled personnel to deliver them. The business sells a solid gold level of service, and provides a plastic- at best- service. Clients are treated as 'cash cows', ready to be exploited by the business as much as possible.
