Typical day at work was putting out fires and less on working long term improvements. Monthly inventory counts were a joke as the previous month was never correct, so the expectation was that engineers stayed very very late nights to figure it out. Safety in working around battery dissection was lax. At one point there were 3-4 meetings a day about why progress was not being made on production numbers (hint, in meetings all the time). Management is not kind/respectful of women especially if women disagree with their plans, outlook, etc., or if women try to ask clarifying questions or point out possible issues. The language barrier is difficult, and it shouldn't be, but many decisions were run through HQ in Korea; many discussions about issues on the ground are had in Korean, and Korean American employees were noticeably more "read-in" on situations. The after work culture of going out for drinks, food, etc., seems like trying to carry that over from Korea, and while fun, is usually used to get young, impressionable engineers to "work hard play hard" instead of better work life balance. Do not get tricked into it. It is not worth it. Stay clear of The Pack Department it is not where you want to be if you want to advance in your job or even have a life. If you are placed into pack and then 6 months later want to be transferred good luck it is not going to happen. Long hours. Forced overtime. Upper management is more interested in firing people than get the right answers. Not a nice place to work at. Not much as far as positives. I hadn't either, but what a shock it was. What kind of part was it? A bearing. Shoot, if only they had a tool they could use to see if a bearing was about to explode from the vibration. Sorry you can't cause of downtime. This is the mentality at LG, instead of 10 minutes downtime, make it always an hour at least, because if its not because the machines broken, its your fault.
