Not too bad of a place to work at unless u bump a van and its £1000 out of your wages.
Customers can be awkward but most are sound.

Over-targeted and over pressured.
Sold a dream on interview stage, but managers very keen to give "feedback" when not appropriate, overly stressful for not great money and the bonuses are not worth the stress.

Used to be good, culture non-existent

There is a belief that the culture in AO is high performing but in reality you can't get anyone to engage. There is a hands off approach and air is thick with presenteeism. The people are cliquey but at the same time wouldn't think twice about throwing you under a bus to protect their own interests. Regular requests for feedback that's more for them that it is for the masses, and a "You said, we listened" policy that's as tone deaf as the type of things that are implemented. Over the last 18 months a major review of inefficiencies which has caused job losses to innocent hard working people but those in the roles that have made the initial bad decisions still sitting in their glass boxes.

They try and reduce pay for any reason they can think of and try to make hours worked reduced from what you actually do. The job is actually good if it was managed properly.

Learning how to multi-task a number of roles under pressure.

Dealing with the self employed drivers and porters.

Tends to be fast paced when it really gets busy; you have to be prepared to learn and think on your feet.
What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very quiet in the morning to midday. By then any health and safety check, clearing of rubbish and your excel spreadsheets should ready to process the first vans returning with undelivered products for debriefing.

Contractually you only get paid for their estimate of how long a job will take. This appears to be based on a ground floor with easy access and modern pipework. When there are then blocks of flats with no lifts or tough to reach connections there is no extra money regardless of what you are told during training. An extra couple of hours on a shift unpaid is pretty standard and can easily take you below minimum wage You can easily get below minimum wage. All of this with the financial responsibility of everything in the van. With 9 delivery vans per day being stolen in London generally by professional gangs that is a huge. Also, when shifts are cut due to a shortage of work they still actively recruit and train new crews with the crews in training getting the shifts before existing crews. 6 shifts down to 2 is tough when you have bills to pay.

Great benefits package and some good people work here.

Overall not a bad company to work for, ok pay but great benefits. You sometimes find yourself fighting for the support you need from other areas of the business. The CEO is just amazing, really in touch with issues, open and honest, where he can be.
