The expired systems, methods and communications are extremely stressful to work with, given the information, technology and diversity that is present in the world. As a contract apprentice, you are the lowest in terms of rank in the company, but you do get a good opportunity to see how different heating systems work in average residential homes in NYC. I suggest you do your own independent research to see how basic residential heating systems work (hydronic, steam, hot air furnace, and water heater), they do provide you with training but the trainer I had basically read off slides and could barely read above a 5th-grade level, and to be honest I am not sure the guys actually know much. you do get to ride along 2 weeks with an experianced service technician ( the one I had was great), just absorb as much as you can, ask questions but know when to ask, help your tech with his repairs: retreave tools or parts to make his day easier; dont get in his way. Once your in the field on your own, absorbe as much informations as you can, if you dont understand what something does take a picture and look it up. See how the boiler is wired and, use this as a learning oppurtunity. you are not fixing anything, just there to do tune-up and check to see if the system is working, so relax and have fun. I never got time to develop my own tasks as i was always chasing their work. It transpires that my manager and head of either left or were fired a month after I left. I wouldn't recommend this place. Upper management and HR need work. Often crushed for deadlines with very little support for internal teams. I was working there for almost a decade. No progression what so ever unless you're willing to brown nose. Worked in various different departments but there was always some excuse for not progressing. It used to be ana amazing place to work where everyone treated you like family and you were looked after. Now, I'm ashamed to offer the services we have to customers. They dont care about their customers unless they put up a nasty review on social media. The staff are treated like they're disposable, ever since new management was hired almost 2 years ago. They give you a rota then change it and dont tell you, expecting you to notice it and figure it out. They put everyone on a PIP, regardless of performance so they can micro manage everyone. I know some good people who dedicate their lives to this company, who have been treated as if they're not good enough. Management dont follow their own rules and like to remind you that you're lucky to have a job. I could write forever about this place. Only good thing about it is the colleagues you work with that keep you going and the pay. But trust me, after the 3 month honey moon period you'll be having more bad days than good.
