Great brands, terrible management, would avoid
|
|
Market-leading brands: some of the best events in various sectors.
Talented colleagues: people work very hard despite poor senior leadership.
|
Where to begin? It’s interesting to see the very common issues in many Hyve reviews on here.
The senior leadership is appalling. They are disconnected from the majority of the teams that work for them (and do the REAL work to pull in the success and revenue which pays Event Director and C-suite bonuses).
Employee wellbeing: behind the shiny veneer you see on Hyve’s website, they are ruthless and entirely profit-driven at the expense of employees health and job satisfaction. They artificially extend probationary periods to use the threat of termination as a motivator. Their retention rate is terrible because employees are so unhappy, they breed a negative hiring & firing culture.
Management and improvement: they pretend to listen to under-resourced and over-worked teams and then fail to act on feedback. Many good people were let go during the pandemic and those roles were not hired post-pandemic as the attitude set by senior leadership is to work people to exhaustion by saving money in salaries. Except of course the salaries and bonuses of the senior leadership team.
They tread on employment law with unrealistic work demands and then terminate employees who push back. It’s a completely toxic approach which has now become exposed openly in event industry circles.
There have been a number of cases in recent years where legal action has been taken by Hyve employees against the company for violating employment law.
All this is a great shame as the brands themselves are excellent and the teams do a fantastic job to ensure events run very well and professionally onsite.
It’s just a shame that Hyve do not reward this with competitive salaries and career development opportunities for the majority of its loyal employees.
The 2023 takeover by private equity owners has simply made the existing problems worse. It has created a profit-over-people monster which will end up harming Hyve Group financially.

Stop pretending to listen and actually implement change, resources and structure to support your teams. You only have successful events because of the teams hard work - god knows it’s not because of your work.
Stop turning a blind eye to the negativity and exhaustion felt by your own employees. Hiring and firing at will is not a long term business strategy to maintain event success.
There’s a huge disconnect between what you portray at a corporate level and what the actual lived experience is of your employees.
Your clients and partners are becoming increasingly aware of your bad practices and workplace culture, you’ve lost many talented employees who built these relationships and your clients will vote with their budgets and increasingly move to competitor events.
Selling to private equity was a big mistake.

Some people are gems, though it seemed like they won't stay for long. Great diversity in the team.
|
Low salaries are way below the market range.
Poor management due to the lack of working process communication, polar opinions, and not enough information. They throw you into self-discovery of your role and then complain. No support, just negativity.
The operations team doesn’t want to work after 4:30 p.m. because they'd rather drink until 3 am on the events day and the next day be hangover and passive-aggressive.
The content team is using ancient methods of data collection. A lot of business processes could be optimised with the technology.
If you will be working hard and trying to deliver immaculate results in all aspects expect to be blamed for “putting pressure on people”.
The company won't be bothered to collect your laptop after the termination of your contract. Expect to deliver it to them in Paddington.
The office does not have the best location and is missing benefits.
The headset and laptop weren't working properly.

Change the content and operations team entirely if you'd like to progress. Starting with the management and the old schoolers. Marketing, partnerships and sales teams are working so hard but resulting with their efforts die on the event delivery stage. It could be a great agency if the highest management looked closely at the team's heads and invested in new progressive ones. Currently, the company’s technology is far away behind. Train your team's management properly. They have no methodology for how to effectively build working processes, and how to motivate teams instead of bringing them down and making them frustrated.
The most stressful job I ever took. I wish I never did it.

There’s no real structure. Incentives listed in job description and interviewwere rarely awarded. The epitome of buying staff pizza as some sort of reward.

The company that loves making people redundant
|
|
All superficial shiny stuff like diversity and inclusion policies that don't translate into managers actions; performance recognition rewards designed to create a positive perception of the company on social media and help with desperate recruitment problem.
|
When it comes to hiring and firing staff
Hyve is like a millionaire grandpa always in search for a young model wife. And when this model reaches certain age, he makes her redundant and readily spends his fortune on an yonger babe, slowly getting in dept.
