Really hard to progress in role as there is favouritism within the team and having applied for a senior role 4 times and not getting this its frustrating. Management have zero idea or something interest in the daily running of departments, or issues that their staff present them. They only care about their public image. Colleagues are for the most part very friendly and managers I've dealt with have been very reasonable and accommodating- work/life balance valued. Pension is very good, opportunity to buy extra holidays and lots of other perks. Maternity/paternity better than a lot of employers. Limited opportunities for progression in a branch based role unless you aspire to be a manager. Remote working no longer advertised/encouraged - rubbish if you want to progress into other areas and don't live near a head office/admin center. Member representative role is extremely sales focused although management will try and pretend it isn't. The amount of 1-1s and work development documentation you have to fill in is a bit OTT. Some of the work tools you have to use are outdated/inefficient. Rarely finish work on time. The senior leadership have made it abundantly clear that they don't value long service, loyalty, knowledge or experience. It's more than just a job to people of the old Nationwide, which brings me nicely to my cons... We are suffering a raid on our culture by former bank employees who are trying to replicate their old employer structures and cultures within Nationwide. They are getting rid of anyone who gets in their way. Forcing people back to office working has been extremely unpopular, and a tremendous cultural and logistical failing. Former bank employees are now embedded in management roles at all levels and are recruiting their former bank colleagues. Nationwide has had the carpet pulled out from underneath it, and time will tell of it survives as a building society... the acquisition of virgin media and losing 'building society' from its marketing suggests it won't. Understand that Nationwide is not a bank. We exist for our members, and we serve our members through our employees. Stop with the corporate, hard approach your bringing in from other banks. We are not other banks. We are Nationwide... we look after our members and our staff who serve our members. CEO has to go! Bring back Jo Garner who understood us.
