The rise and total collapse of a once respected Cyber firm

Some really nice people there but they are all under continuous stress, fear and frustration

I've worked in NCC for the most part of my career and I also played my part, a small one, in helping the company progress. I have experienced the company's rise under Cotton's leadership, the incredible momentum and morale, I've seen the fall that led Cotton's departure. I worked and flourished during Adam's leadership; a time where much of the lost ground was regained.
But I was never ready to experience what came after this. Witnessing the company we will loved, collapsing, being defiled for absolutely no reason. Seeing the new management's decisions can only make you think whether they care in growing or killing the firm. I'm afraid it's past the point of no return now. The only positive is the fact that new companies emerge from NCC's ashes and will hopefully carry the flame. A new era has come.

A Candid Review for Future Potential Interns

1) I had a fantastic manager. He ensured that I was shadowing the best engagements, and I honestly had a really fun time pentesting, learning, and presenting vulnerability reports to clients. I felt supported by him and still keep in touch to this day. You'll likely work under someone pretty nice.
2) You'll meet really cool people (assuming they aren't let go already). Many of my coworkers were cyber badasses, and I respected them a lot.
3) You'll get great experience finding vulnerabilities, creating reports, and discussing vuln remediation with clients. You'll be shadowing, so you'll get to learn while still contributing. If you passed the technical interview, you've got the skills to do the job.

1) Very little diversity. While this unfortunately seems to be the case with cybersecurity in general, if you're looking to work somewhere that isn't 80%+ white men, then look elsewhere.
2) You won't get a return offer (and you probably don't want one). It doesn't really matter how well you do. The company is letting people go, offshoring, and increasing workload without bonuses due to budgetary cuts, so the last thing on their mind is bringing you back full-time. Many full-time employees are let go without warning, a few of which had been hired the month before.
3) I can't think of anyone who thought favorably of upper management. Not one person.

They deceive you, telling you they're working on improving, when all they care about is lining their pockets. Consultants leave (some without having another job) because day-to-day life in this company is a real hell.

Where do I start, NCC Group has been on a downward trajectory when since MM the new CEO took over. Since the layoffs pentesting has been looked down upon by upper management like a colony of lepers. It is more than clear that there is no future at NCC Group for pentesting unless you are cheap off-shored Manila resource then you have a future until the clients leave.
The clueless leadership team have destroyed what was once a world class security team for a quick buck. Only now too many have left and therefore our CHECK and specialist capabilities are diminished.
To try and boost the team until the inevitable downfall of NCC Group, they have asked consultants who were promoted to give a review on glass door. Note this email was sent only to those who were promoted (with a title and mere 10% increase) anyone who wasn't promoted did not receive this email for obvious reasons. They state in the email "as a key member of our team" does this mean those who were not promoted are not key members?
The treatment of the consulting team is disgusting, whilst the SLT team try to buy likes to coax in unsuspecting talent they neglect the majority of the consultant team with lack of payrises and benefits (Most competitors offer paid training and private medical at least but if you are under managing consultant, NCC don't care if you get sick). The SLT infact boast about the Manila office having basketball courts and fancy offices (after closing most of the UK offices). I wish it was a joke but when you get no pay rise the last thing you want to see is money that could have been spent helping you live through tough times spent on a basketball course.
With any luck more reviews will come in and this ridiculous attempt at positive review bribery will backfire.

The client base is varied which provides a good range of projects to work on.

Used to be a great place to learn from experienced colleagues, but many have now left.
The senior management value profit over knowledge, as evidenced by heavy investment in an offshored Manilla office full of juniors whilst shutting down 3 U.K. offices in a year. Staff are praised for sales rather than technical excellence, possibly because no one in power grasps the nuances of technical delivery.
Some very arrogant personalities at the top who are ploughing through their transformation/decimation of the company whilst forcing out those who built the company in the first place.
Senior management are not visible to staff - they would rather fly around the world for photo ops than be present for the hard questions from an increasingly disgruntled workforce.

Management need to realise that in a consultancy the staff ARE the product and boost business outcomes by building an environment for staff to thrive rather than seeing them as a cost to be replaced with cheaper, less experienced “resources”.
Sales based on NCC Group’s historic strong reputation won’t last if and when quality suffers.
