The overall environment is toxic. None of the teams work well together (ie. manufacturing, quality, engineering, project management). lon:ule https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=16014 Mar 18th, 2024 12:00AM Open Open Ultra Group Sr. Electronics Technician Victor, NY Ho-hum electronics tech experience. Good pay for responsibility. Victor office is nice. Most people were nice. Not enough work to go around. In hindsight, they should have never hired me. I never got the feeling like there was anyone at the wheel locally. The HR/Payroll group is without a doubt the worst I have ever experienced in 30+ years of work. Never ending issues with ADP system. I gave my 2 weeks and they walked me out with 32 hours left my last week. This was underhanded and petty, especially after asking for a minimum of 2 weeks notice in their handbook. I realize that I was not under contract, but it just unprofessional and spiteful. Enter and exit this employer with caution. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 2.0 3.0 4.0 3.0 3.0 4.0 1.0 2.0 16014 Open The Victor office seems stable enough. However the parent company Advent is not doing there subordinates any favors. I imagine the goal is to fatten Ultra for the eventual slaughter. It seemed like the old saying of penny wise and pound foolish came to mind often. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 1.0 Open Apr 21st, 2024 07:08AM Apr 21st, 2024 07:08AM Ultra Electronics Industrials Aerospace & Defense

lon:ule https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=16014 Feb 10th, 2024 12:00AM Open Open Ultra Group Software Engineer II Austin, TX Potential The company is filled with really talented engineers - smart guys who work in C/C++ and know what they're doing and can work hard. The new president is sharp and making an effort to modernize the company - this is exactly what this place needs to make it a top-notch org on par (or exceeding) the larger defense contractors. Lack of organizational structure across the board - documentation/actual job structure. As an IC you will report to a Principal Eng or a Techical Program Manager - but there are no "Engineering Managers" in sight (first time I've seen this in a company) - so you're manager will likely be pretty busy with their own contributions as well as managing your work. Lack of documentation - there are no Software Design Documents, Software Requirements Documents, Software Verification Protocols, Software Validation Protocols, etc, in sight. I have seen 1 "Interface Control Document" in my time here - which makes sense given this is telecom. But at the same time, the company needs to have written, organized documentation for its products. Lack of documentation makess working as a dev hard - you won't have clear requirements to develop against, and the testers won't have clear requirements to test against. With larger, more complex features for programs, there will always be something lost-in-communication from the Program Manager to the IC that becomes an issue. Having project phases of organizing the requirement changes/definitions would be helpful to reduce wasted work. The guys here are all really good, cerebral people, but have not documented much formally. It'll be hard to be productive within 6 months as a junior eng unless you're really well adapted to C and design patterns in C. It would benefit the company too if they documented more - it'd be less hard to train new employees - with good enough documentation it should only take 6 months to onboard a junior engineer. Just take all the guys here with 20+ yrs experience and fine-tune an LLM model or something on them. There is an internal wiki that hap-hazardly documents things. But there are no requirements documents, design documents, test procedures etc. that you would expect to find in a corporate environment. The program mgmt team is working to start producing these I believe (Jira is being brought in). 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NO_OPINION 0.0 3.0 4.0 3.0 4.0 3.0 5.0 3.0 16014 Open Keep moving the company towards modern software engineering practices - utilize Git instead of SVN, work with requirements/specifications documents, develop unit tests 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 2.0 Open Apr 21st, 2024 07:08AM Apr 21st, 2024 07:08AM Ultra Electronics Industrials Aerospace & Defense
