There seem to be more freelance translators working for this company than there are projects. I've done a number of high-profile projects for them, but I still don't feel like I've been able to get past the "first come, first serve" approach they use. (Also, this approach is not great for freelancers in a different time zone than the PMs.) In addition, right now, two of my invoices are overdue past the 45 days. AND they've lowered their rates by 20% this year. I really enjoy the work, but the conditions and rates need to improve.

No doubt I have had good periods of work with Zoo in the past. The project coordinators have been consistently great to work with over the years. They're the main reason for me to have stuck around.

-Delayed payments at random!
I don't understand this pattern. Sometimes the payments are made on time. Sometimes you have to keep chasing your payments like they are doing you a favor. The Finance team is often not responsive. They respond when they feel like it, they don't give any useful update, and if they're not making a payment on time, they ignore your query till they do. I'm sorry, but that's just not professional. The finance team cannot behave like they are on a dating app, responding and ghosting as they feel like, while the rest of us have bills to pay. If they're going to pay as and when they feel like it, why not make a game of it instead of having us raise an invoice and wait the 45 day period only to start the real waiting game. Ridiculous and disappointing!
-Inconsistent work flow
This isn't unique only to Zoo, but I find that it becomes difficult to depend only on them for work, especially in the last year or so.
-Inconsistent pay rate
Some of the work you end up doing for the standard pay rate makes no sense because some bad quality files are provided and it ends up taking so much longer than the average one. That needs to be looked into.

- Good system for getting flexi time and being able to save up to get an extra day off per month from it
- Snacks and drinks provided in office
- Lovely people who come to the office regularly
- The work was interesting in some areas
|
- Flexi time if over 1 days worth will delete at the end of the month if not used, I was not warned about this first time it happened and lost almost half a day owed to me
- If you get stuck on certain products it's a lot of regression and not much progress and can really make things stale
- Not a lot of movement to putting automation in, it's happening slowly with the push of one person but no real high level backing
- A lot of protecting each other at the higher levels
- Can get some retaliation from upper management if complaints are raised and nothing is done about it despite them giving training on how it is not 'something they support'
- Micro-managed to the nth degree
- Not very much support around mental health and as mental health first aiders are only upper management and HR you find that your trust is not taken seriously due to trying to 'protect the business'
- The recent spate of redundancies was handled very poorly with lots of people being let go but then promoting a lot of people and hiring newbies for 3 times the pay of people they let go
- Very few people come to the office anymore, to the point where a lot of people wonder why they have an office at all
- I thought the diversity wasn't brilliant but not awful until I worked for other companies and saw the difference

- Get more mental health first aiders at the lower levels so breakdowns and concerns are handled the right way
- Get rid of people who are obviously only caring for themselves and their friends, and will get rid of anyone who jeopardizes that
- Think about how things come across more in communications especially if it's negative things like how the redundancies were handled
- More diversity in upper management and the board
