Truly Outstanding Company
My tenure at Alector has been a rewarding experience thanks to our shared mission to make brain diseases a thing of the past. The entire team is not only committed to reaching our corporate goals, but also in fostering a work culture that is both enjoyable and rewarding. At Alector, the excitement is palpable thanks to our innovative scientific pursuits and the thrilling projects we undertake.
The company excels in maintaining open and transparent communication, the dialogues that ensure everyone feels heard and valued. Management not only sets high standards, they live by them, creating an environment of mutual respect and support.
The support from upper management and cross-functional teams is tremendous, providing us with the best possible opportunities to achieve our objectives. Working alongside such high-caliber teams encourages each of us to excel in our respective roles, contributing to the future success of the company. I look forward to witnessing and contributing to the many triumphs that lie ahead for Alector.
Like any other company, Alector is not exempt from areas that need improvement. However, what sets Alector apart is its proactive approach towards feedback. The management actively encourages team members to voice their thoughts and ideas, ensuring that potential problem areas are identified and addressed promptly. This constant striving for improvement is a testament to Alector's commitment to its employees and its mission.

HR Leadership very green.
People genuinely work hard here.
HR leaders should know their place. However, the CPO is not held accountable. Very unfortunate.
Alector leaders, wake up. You need a reorg in your HR dept. Specifically the leaders in place. All of them are very junior.

If your focus is compensation only, go for it. If you are concerned for your welfare, look elsewhere.
- Colleagues are collaborative and easy to work with - Compensation is decent - The mission of the company is awesome but who is chosen to execute the mission is questionable
- Although diversity is championed its lack is very apparent - Toxic environment where workplace abuse runs rampant and is not taken seriously - HR functions to cover the company's back only and is unconcerned with employee well-being - Leadership works together to monitor and silence complaints - Management turns a blind eye to bullying - Your welfare will suffer if you have the misfortune to be placed under inept management - Employees support one another privately but cannot do so openly without fear of also receiving harassment - Employees are not able to advocate for themselves without experiencing retaliation - Those who perpetuate bad workplace behavior are promoted while dedicated employees are laid off

- Managers do not reserve the right to mistreat employees with impunity based on their hierarchical positions. HR should prevent employee mistreatment by not covering up for managers and allowing them to shift blame to mistreated employees. - When employees share sensitive information about workplace abuse sustained by managers, HR should ensure the actions taken do not leave an employee vulnerable to more abuse. - Collecting employee feedback is not enough to solve the above concerns at this company. Only lip service is paid to address the serious issues raised by employees. Based on the other Glassdoor reviews, multiple people providing the same feedback requires an honest review of the company culture and actual change to take place.

No respect with work boundaries
-Nice office, great WFH, flexible -Strong communication (sometimes too much over communication)
-Constant shifts in timelines and priorities. -Pushy team members who micromanage you (yes, I saw your email. DO NOT PING ME to prioritize, I saw your email come in and will get to it when I get to it) -Everything is urgent. You will get Slacked to prioritize things by your study Lead who wants you to get it done/ASAP bc she is impatient and has anxiety over timelines that will probably shift any ways -Not enough resources in certain departments

Please train study team members (especially study leads) to set work boundaries - give people time to complete their deliverables. Also, teach study team members how to have Slack etiquette. My working hours are 8AM-5PM but do not slack me before 8AM, expecting a response bc aside from work, I have family matters to tend to OR am commuting into the office. The study lead that I work with is a workaholic and expects her team to function with high anxiety like her, which leads to a very toxic working environment.

Too Fast Paced; Not Quality Driven
-Flexible WFH/hybrid -Office is nice
-Extremely fast turnaround times for ICF reviews (1 business day or even by EOB) -Last minute urgencies -Getting looped into emails with little or no context with the expectation to provide response back ASAP -Studies are led by study leads who have less than 10 years of sponsor experience -Micromanaging (you’d get early morning pings by study lead/CTMs asking you to prioritize things ASAP. U don’t even have time to catch up or read your emails) -No time for quality review -CRO pushbacks on sponsor requests -Condescending team members who will bully/escalate you if you don’t complete a task ASAP -Not a lot of resources for certain departments

Managers need to teach their study team needs to be more mindful of their timelines. Always asking for things now or requesting them to turn back something within a day that requires extensive review is extremely difficult. If it doesn’t pose any risks to patient safety, it is not the end of the world. Give people time to breathe and stop micromanaging. Allow team members sufficient time to review and ensure quality. It does not matter if you have good data, if you fail an audit/inspection, your drug will not be on the market. Also, do not have young millennials lead large, complex studies. You are putting your company at risk by failing a multi-million dollar clinical trial due to lack of inexperience and immaturity.
