Old, rundown equipment with improper maintenance. Dangerous chemical handling on the regular. Faulty and rundown environmental controls. A company that has never heard of using engineering controls to mitigate hazards (management probably doesn’t know what “mitigate” means). PPE is your first and only line of defense. Operations personnel are overworked and bear the burden of every department’s responsibilities, safety, maintenance, QA, QC. No other department is supposed to leave their office, or have the first clue how the plant actually operates. HR focuses on finding new ways to terminate operations personnel, or to make them so miserable they quit. They usually pay you. I had no qualms about the benefits or pay even working on nights was very fine for a time. The work load is steady and most days are very manageable. I put in the effort to get to know just about anyone who would talk to me and made some great friends at work. Some even became friends outside of work. It is what you make it to be. If you stay positive and motivated I think you can actually be quite happy working here and living your life. You need to have some perspective and know how to put in a good days work.
