Poor pay, poor management, don’t recommend
|
Good “starter job” or a decent place to get some experience in but absolutely not a place to make a career out of. The pay is terrible the management is lazy and pathetic. Training is almost obsolete new employees training new hires. Work to life ratio is terrible tons of mandatory overtime filling in for people who have been fired or who have quit. The only positive thing I can say is the benefit are good.

Tough work life balance. Expected to work at all times. Fantastic employees. The problems definitely start at the top. The culture is ok because of the employees, not the leaders. Don't trust HR.

Chapter 11: Caused by incompetent upper management, enabled by impotent middle management
|
The previous CEO made many questionable business decisions that led to Amyris filing Chapter 11. Anyone that questioned these decisions was either asked to leave or left on their own. As a result, you have a lot of inept middle management who are mostly yes-men (and they are primarily all men) that do not know how to successfully deal with friction or conflict beyond pretending it isn't there. The (software) tech stack is a pile of old tech upon even older tech that has been running on duct tape and fumes and there is no coherent vision to fix it or even a recognition that it should be fixed. There have been many layoffs and I question whether this company will survive long term.

In the screening and analytics department, the VP, most recently promoted to president of R&D, plays favorites and promotions were based on how much he liked or disliked you.

Not knowing if vendors would get paid. Not knowing how the brand presidents would react to bad news.

Septic, supply chain is completely miss-managed.

Argue with brands over what is manufacturable then fight with project managers over realistic timelines, every day!

Not the place to learn modern stuff since people prefer to work with stacks of 10+ years. The work-life balance is the best I can remember of. Managers lack teeth, no one wants to be responsible to take a stand on a final decision

Fantastic While it Lasted
|
Challenging fun high-end compositing work for tight-knit Photo Studio team on top-tier brand. Unfortunately upper management ruined everything and drove the business into bankruptcy resulting in mass lay offs which is where the fun, unfortunately, ended. Until then it was a solid job which I was very happy doing.
